I noticed a few mistakes in my implementation, mostly to the player's disadvantage. Fixing them and letting it run for a hundred million attempts while I was at work, the success rate for a randomly rolled character seems to be more like 0.0486%, and 0.6% for max stats.

Night Dragon Skill: 10->11 Stamina: 18->20 Luck: 12 Starting Gold: 7 Guide: Yes Assigned Stats: No Attempts: 1 Items: 11 provisions, 11 gold, silver key, steel mirror, ice pick, spiked boots, magic shield 70, magical armour 12, crossbow, magic sword 80, magic amulet (4), magic mirror 100, sphere of light 244 Fights: 3 assassins, 2 snow wolves, stone dwarf, massive dwarf statue, mountain basilisk, skeleton, wizard-wraith, chill shadow, bone stalker, mirror image, mirror demon, wraith horde, woodland ogre, stone juggernaut, dragon imp, bone stalker mage, night dragon, night dragon skull Info: Stormdrake pass, Nevill, -2 skill for night dragon, 2 free hits on night dragon, -1 skill for night dragon for first 5 rounds I included the starting gold I rolled just in case Greenspine needs it for scoring, I assumed that the dream dragon and night dragon skull did not receive the bonus from the sword and armour since they were reasonably managable fights without it. I forgot to use my mirror to do 6 damage to the night dragon and so needed to absorb the magic from my shield, oops! Other than that a fairly easy win.

Night Dragon Sk8+1, St21 Lu7+1 Go9
The problem with Keith Martin's multiple opponents rules is it just takes one of them to protect the one you're trying to hit and score a hit on you to boot. Suffice it to say the three assassins got me.

A little over 30 hours to get in results for week 36.

In view of the bonuses provided at the end of The Seven Serpents, please make sure to distinguish clearly between starting and finishing stats if you play and win that one.

The earth serpent was quite stubbornly resisting my efforts to lift it off the ground and almost killed me but fortunately I finally succeeded with just 3 stamina left. After that, it was a pretty easy victory. *4 nighthawks at once for 3 rounds, I killed one before the fight ended

Brave and well done, with those starting stats you must have known it was a lost cause \ mission impossible \ suicide but you tried anyway! Those underpowered adventurers never seem to win via flukes (in my experience, that is) although stronger characters can die in easy FFs all too often.

A little under 24 hours to get in results for week 37.
Week 38 Starhunt: Void Slavers (Fighting Fantazine 12) (10 dice – usual stats plus Blaster Skill, social security number and ship stats) Vault of the Vampire (5 dice – usual stats plus Faith)
Please state if you use a guide, if you allocate dice at character creation rather than taking them as they fall, or if you make more than one attempt at a book. Only combats which you win should be included in the list of enemies defeated.
Week 36 scoring Both evilwizard and terrysalt killed 21 enemies. Most were the same, and the Snow Wolves were practically equivalent to the Iron Serpents, stats-wise, but the Dream Dragon has a significantly higher Skill than the Massive Dwarf Statue, and an equal Stamina, so evilwizard gets the bonus for overcoming a more formidable opponent. 1st: evilwizard – 17 (stats bonus 2 + victory bonus 10 + most fights won bonus 5) 2nd: terrysalt – 14 (stats bonus 4 + victory bonus 10) 3rd: hallucination - 12 (stats bonus 2 + victory bonus 10) 4th: kieran – 4 (stats bonus 4)

Vault of the Vampire Skill: 11 Stamina: 17 Luck: 8 Faith: 4
Assigned stats: No Guide: Yes Attempts: 1
items: 5 provisions, 10 gold, garlic, magic sword, 2 brandy, silver mirror, book of healers, silver key 378, book of swords 188, castellan's keys, silvered stake, ring of regeneration, crypt key
fights: 2 zombies, 3 zombies, tigerskin rug, 2 zombies, minor thassaloss, vampire mist, horned vampire bat
info: 3 coffins destroyed, forward and back for magical lock
My low luck was my undoing. It took me 3 attempts to get the magic sword which left my luck basically unusable for the rest of the book. This led to me losing a skill point to a trap which then led to the spectre totally destroying me.

The Seven Serpents One attempt Stats rolled in order No guide Wizard A very early death. Stats etc: Wizard Skill 6/6 Stamina 0/17 Luck 11/12
Provisions 1 Gold 20 Galehorn Writeup-that's-more-rambling-on-about-what-I-remember-than-actual-writeup: Ah, The Seven Serpents. This is the book that started things for me, but it's been a long time since I last played it. My original copy - now long lost - came from either a charity shop or a stall at the local village fair, and somehow got me hooked on the series even though I cheated heavily and still didn't win much. As the title alludes to, the goal of the book is to kill six serpents before they can report to Mampang while making the journey there myself. Okay I'm being a bit glib; there are seven, but the Sun Serpent's been caught by an npc and you don't need to deal with it at all. In fact, I recall flipping through the book as a kid and while I think I found a section for fighting said serpent, I never found a section that pointed to that one. Anyway, as so often seems to be the case with these books I've not played in decades, my memory is rather patchy. I know each serpent has a weakness; Moon is weak to a fireball, Fire is empowered by being in a forest fire, Earth needs to be removed from the ground, Water has something to do with oil, Air is weak to 1/n mathematical sequences, Sun is weak to not reading its contract regarding its appeareance in this book and Time is weak to a basic understanding of roman numerals. There's also a serpent-whacking stick I can get from what I think is a friendly character, if I don't find a... bell? to summon the ferryman I'm going to wind up walking the lake shores until I eventually starve to death, and there's a trap somewhere where you're in a pit that's cooking you alive that I always hit on the one route I kept following as a kid, where my go-to solution was casting the MUD spell and then Libra-ing my way out, because that definitely wasn't a bad use of resources. Seriously that was part of my intentional route.
Of course, not cheating by giving myself a warrior's +6 to my die roll as a wizard (and then deciding I autowin combats anyway), there's a good chance I won't make it anywhere near far enough for any of that to matter. Let's see how many serpents I can bag before I die! I'm betting... that I die to the third one. Fire or Earth, I think.
The book opens with my being attacked by scary birds. I recall not really having to fight them so I refrain from draining my stamina on superfluous spelcasting. Which... might be an issue.
I survived. Let's leave it at that. Eating one of my precious two provisions already, I encounter Shadrack who gives me mostly information I know, but does tell me the Air serpent's actual weakness and lets me recover some more stamina, leaving me now at what I would desribe as 'in a bad way'.
I'm already lost as to which way to go, and chance upon a beetle. I don't think I'm likely to find enemies with a skill lower than 6 in this book so I'll have to turn to magic here despite the stamina cost. I'm pretty sure I make the right selection, but then it squirts acid on me when I hit it, and the beetle shortly gets a temporarily giant-sized meal.
Well that was disappointing. But I'm also likely to get a better score from this attempt with those stats than any replay would get me, so I'm disincentivised from giving it another go to see more of the book than 9 sections so hey.

A belated welcome to new participant trialmaster.
A little under 23 hours to get in results for week 39.
Week 40 The Crown of Kings (4 dice) The Dark Usurper (White Dwarf 61-63) (4 dice)
Please state if you use a guide, if you allocate dice at character creation rather than taking them as they fall, or if you make more than one attempt at a book. Only combats which you win should be included in the list of enemies defeated. As The Dark Usurper is broken into three parts, the victory bonus for it will be handled slightly differently from usual. Each part won is worth 3 points, with an additional point for beating all three.
