Real name Adam. Got into FF as a result of buying Deathtrap Dungeon via the Puffin Bookclub in 1984 and became a fan and collector from that moment on. Really well done to all those responsible for Fighting Fantazine.

Hello! My name is David and I'm a big gamebookfan from Germany. Sorry for any spelling mistakes. My english is far from perfect, but it's good enough to read and play FF-Books. I actually improved my knowledge in English by reading FF-Books in the past, because there are so many FF-Books that were not published in Germany (we have only 22 from the original green Spine-Series translated in german)and I want to play them all! I also took part in the FF-Fest in 2014, but you sure don't remember me. Me and my wife were the only Germans there, and we were a bit shy and didn't talk to much. But I had a lot of fun there and bought YOU ARE THE HERO which gave me many hours of enjoyment. I'm also helped my friend Simon to write his own gamebook DER WEG DER WACHTEL, by doing the illustrations, proofreading and playtesting. You can find a entry about our book in the amateur gamebook section in this forum.

Hi I'm Tim Gardiner, a scientist, poet and children's author from Essex who was greatly inspired by the FF books in the 80s. My favourite is easily Creature of Havoc which inspired the following haibun (prose and haiku) about playing the book and the frustration of the duel with Quimmel Bone (my fav bad guy):
Bones
I pick up my roleplay gamebook, Creature of Havoc*, recommencing the story on the flying ship, the Galleykeep. It’s been a long slog getting to this perilous point; I’ve died many times and the dice have not been kind. Pursuing hobgoblins have driven me below deck in search of the evil necromancer, Zharradan Marr. Standing in the hallway, I have a choice of five doors, each adorned with a symbol. I choose the door with the crossed swords on it.
poor choice made in haste… the door closes
The room beyond is full of specimen jars and bookshelves with a skeleton hanging on a hook in the corner. I ring the bell on the desk. No-one responds, so I begin to scan the anatomical books on the shelves. I’m startled by a clicking voice behind me; that of the ship’s skeletal physician, Doctor Quimmel Bone, now off his hook. Immediately suspicious, I rush to attack him and manage a quick victory due to several favourable rolls of the dice. With the bones of the vanquished physician lying lifeless on the floor, I decide to leave the cursed study. To my surprise, Quimmel’s bones intertwine and the re-animated doctor leaps forward with two surgical knives. After defeating him again, the physician’s bones weave back into the perfect skeletal form and he re-engages in combat. Weary, I win the duel, before Quimmel’s bones rise from the floor and he lunges forward once more....
deja-vu… some battles are unending
*inspired by Steve Jackson’s fantasy roleplay book ‘Creature of Havoc (1986)’
The haibun was first published in the Swansea poetry magazine, The Seventh Quarry Issue 27, Spring 2018, turn to page 95! The haibun is really a metaphor about not being able to break from the past. The struggle is all as they say!

Thanks almighty mudworm, the FF books were more than just books to me, they were an escape from life's troubles. I lost myself in Creature of Havoc for days on end. Still never completed it without cheating. Furthest I got was dear old Quimmel. Pretty gutted to get stuck there, but I made the Galleykeep! I have written some more FF style haibun which are choose your own adventures, with the haiku poems giving cryptic clues as to the correct choices! One, The Skeleton Overlord is to be published, but I have another one which I might send through for the magazine. Fan fiction with a hint of poetry!

Thought I might say a few words here. My time on this forum had an inauspicious beginning as "Guest 123" but as a member I have had a slightly better time. Favourite FF books are Citadel, Howl of the Werewolf and Night of the Necromancer, plus the Sorcery! epic. I have enjoyed reading the solutions board and the FF haikus and "Worst Immersion Breakers" threads.

I love the oddity of that book. It's not everyone's favourite but it's packed with great imagination. It's definitely a stand out book in the series for me.

Thanks! In honesty, I could be persuaded to replace "Howl" with either "Seas of Blood" or "Caverns of the Snow Witch". Hello, New member here. Hi all! I'm Rex Helltreader and am looking to make some CYOA with Twine. I will do the programming but as for music, writing and images, I am very keen to work with others. I'm just starting out and might have one collaborator already but I could probably cope with two projects at once Love and hugs obviously! Rex
