I've just read Marsten's
Legend of Zagor blog post and he mentioned this line that resonated with me:
'Given that this is a Fighting Fantasy adventure and I'm on a boat, it's only a matter of time before disaster strikes. '
So I wonder how many boat trips go well (completely uneventfully i.e. nothing bad happens) and how many end in FF books. I'll start off with the ones I can think off the top of my head:
Uneventful boat trips:
Temple of Terror has 2 - the barge trip to Blacksand and the Dwarf boat trip.
Legend of Zagor - if you spend a luck point.
Island of the Lizard King - getting to Fire Island.
Eventful boat trips:
Temple of Terror - pirate ship attacked by dwarves.
Legend of Zagor - attacked by Wyvern (if you do not spend a luck point.)
Armies of Death - the river boat trip.
Master of Chaos - barge attacked by pirates.
Daggers of Darkness - attacked by 2 dragons.
Fangs of Fury - your boat is grabbed by a giant.
Portal of Evil - your raft is broken apart on rocks.
Warlock of Firetop Mountain - you either get scammed or you have to fight a wererat or you are attacked by something in the river.
Island of the Lizard King - raft journey.
Seas of Blood - the whole thing.
Demons of the Deep - attacked by pirates in the background.
Stealer of souls - giant crab and possible sea giant attack.
Black Vein prophecy - your boat can get attacked by some strange beast.
Island of the Undead - shipwrecked on page 1
So it looks like taking a boat on Titan will spell disaster of titanic (pun intended) proportions. Any more to add?
