The Dervish Stone is a one way trip through a pretty tough obstacle course. There are some tricky parts which require moderately high scores, so Skill 10+ and Luck 8+ is recommended. The story is almost non-existent and sometimes a bit ridiculous, but the aerial combat in particular was memorable, particularly the orc with the Boots of Leaping.
You start with:
- Sword.
- Backpack.
- 20 Gold Pieces.
- Take Potion of Fortune.
- 5 Meals.
- Take 20 Gold Pieces.
- Search for the potion mentioned in the text.
- Take Control Human Potion.
- 1 Damage.
- You have found the potion (+1 Luck).
- Go closer to listen.
- See what he has to offer.
- Take 2 Gas Capsules (-6 Gold Pieces).
- Take Glass Eye (-5 Gold Pieces).
- Take Magic Sword (+1 Attack Strength, -10 Gold Pieces).
- Take Magic Throwing Knife (when used, deals 2 damage to enemy automatically, -7 Gold Pieces).
- You want to move on now.
- You think it a place to be well left alone.
- Enter the building.
- Go to the bar.
- Pay the price and buy a drink (-3 Gold Pieces).
- Restore 1 Stamina.
- Stay at the bar.
- Leave.
- Sleep here.
- Fight Sk 8 St 7 Night Ghoul.
- If hit 4 times by enemy: Death.
- You may eat a Meal here.
- Continue on the flat.
- You want to help the nomads.
- Join the struggling nomads.
- 2D6 Test Stamina. If success: Take 5 Gold Pieces (+1 Luck).
- Follow the Sandcrawler’s obvious tracks up a rise.
- Hide.
- You may eat a Meal here (Eat a meal here if you have not already done so after leaving the city).
- You have the Glass Eye (+1 Luck).
- Go up here. 5 Damage if you have not eaten since leaving the city.
- Light your lantern and head inside.
- You have Gas Capsules (-1 Gas Capsule, +1 Luck).
- Throw a Magic Throwing Knife.
- Lose your weapon.
- You may eat a Meal here.
- Go to sleep (-1 Meal).
- Go peacefully.
- Stay put and see what happens next.
- Test Luck. Fail = Death.
- Test Skill.
- If fail:
o 2 Damage.
o Fight Sk 7 St 7 Lauper (-3 Attack Strength for duration of combat).
- Do not follow.
- Fight Sk 7 St 6 Orc (-3 Attack Strength for duration of combat). Combat ends after you have hit enemy twice.
- Exchange the orc’s boots for your own.
- Test Skill. Fail = Death.
- You took his boots (+1 Luck).
- Try to jump out of the pit (+2 Luck).
- Take Boots of Leaping.
- Leap up on the Goblins’ Griffin.
- Fight Sk 5 St 5 Goblin & Sk 5 St 4 Goblin.
- Take Sword.
- You have a Gas Capsule (-1 Gas Capsule, +3 Luck).
- Follow what seems to be a track through the desert.
- Meet the people in the caravan.
- You may eat a Meal here.
- Turn aside from the path to head for the hills.
- Roll D6. 6 = Death.
- 2 Damage.
- Fight Sk 9 St 9 Giant Hawk.
- You may eat a Meal here.
- Light your lantern and enter the cave.
- Try it.
- Put your hand in the first hole (+1 Luck).
- You may eat a Meal here (but only restore 2 Stamina from it).
- Test Luck.
- If fail:
o Fight Sk 10 St 12 Giant Roc.
o If hit three times by enemy:
- 3 Damage.
- Take 100 gp worth of Diamonds!
- You may eat a Meal here.
- You have Boots of Leaping.
- Attack the Dervish to gain entrance.
- Fight Sk 7 St 6 Dervish.
- Search him.
- Take Bag of Sand and 3 Gold Pieces.
- Fight Sk 5 St 7 Crab Spider & Sk 7 St 6 Crab Spider.
- Distrust it and walk around the edge.
- You have some Boots of Leaping.
- Walk across to it stepping on white tiles.
- You have a Bag of Sand (+2 Luck).
- You have Boots of Leaping.
- Test Skill. Fail = Death.
- Test Luck. Fail = Death.
- Test Skill. Fail = Death.
- Getting up and dusting yourself off, you pick up the Stone of Shanhara and stride down the hillside towards your next adventure.
