I liked this adventure. There are a couple of niggling errors, but considering its relative complexity for a 200 reference adventure, it was well designed and executed. It was also quite fun adventuring through the fortress – variety of enemies and encounters, and the goal wasn’t the generic ‘kill the bad guy’; you had a unique mission. Some enemy skill scores are extremely low though, and when you consider that a butler is stronger than several of the guards, you have to wonder whether Throngard chose the correct duties for his underlings. Minimum stats should get you through this adventure.
You start with:
- Sword.
- Knife.
- Picklock.
- Backpack.
- Take Potion of Fortune (2 Doses).
- 5 Meals.
- Shield.
- Use both doses of the Potion of Fortune immediately (+2 Initial Luck).
- Put up a token defence but let them capture you easily.
- Lose all items except for Picklock & Knife.
- Try to pick the lock and escape.
- Turn left.
- Carry on down the corridor.
- Try to open the solid door.
- Take Bag.
- Take Rope.
- Turn left.
- Carry on down the corridor.
- Open the door on your right.
- You have a picklock.
- Go over to him as he wants.
- Restore 4 Stamina.
- Add note: Use Words of Command on Throngard whilst he is in the centre of a pentagram.
- Try to open the door opposite Gandorn’s cell.
- You have a picklock.
- Choose the shield.
- Take Shield (If hit by enemy, Roll D6. 5-6 = 1 Damage instead of 2 taken).
- Take Light Strong Sword.
- Turn left.
- Follow the corridor to the left.
- Turn right.
- Leap into the kitchen and call on them to surrender.
- You have a sword.
- Fight Sk 5 St 6 Chef.
- Restore 4 Stamina.
- Take 3 Meals.
- Take Big Bones.
- Carry straight on.
- Try the door.
- Fight Sk 7 St 10 Vampire Bat.
- Take Mallet & Wooden Stakes.
- Take Chain.
- Try the door on your left.
- You may eat a meal here.
- Drink some white wine.
- Restore 2 Stamina.
- Leave the cellar.
- Turn left.
- Try the left hand door.
- Leap at the butler & try to kill him.
- Fight Sk 4 St 5 Butler.
- Take Large Brass Key.
- Take Penknife.
- Take Metal Polish.
- Try the opposite door.
- Fight Sk 5 St 6 Guard & Sk 4 St 5 Guard together.
- Take Bow & Arrow.
- You may eat a meal here.
- Try the door immediately on your left.
- Read the book.
- Add note: How to fight a dragon, how to fight a vampire, how to recognise an associate of a warlock.
- Go through the door on your left.
- Open the door.
- You have a large brass key.
- You have a bow and arrow.
- Wait until the last possible moment.
- Fight Sk 6 St 9 Dragon. Note that you have a shield to protect you its dragon breath.
- Climb the stairs on the left.
- Fight Sk 5 St 6 Armour.
- Enter the other door on the side you are standing.
- Lie on the bed & sleep.
- Restore 5 Stamina (+2 Luck).
- Walk along the gallery to your left.
- Walk to your right to the next corner of the gallery.
- Open the nearest door on your right.
- Rush to her.
- Take Diamond Ring.
- Take Crucifix.
- Walk to the corner on your left (facing away from the stairs).
- Open the further door on your right.
- Restore 4 Stamina.
- Go through the door.
- Move away from the old man to place the pentagram between you & him.
- You remember the Words of Command.
- Take the dagger & ignore the wizard.
- Take Enchanted Dagger (+2 Skill, +1 Luck). Interpret the skill bonus as you wish.
- Add note: You understand locking runes.
- Continue to turn over the pages.
- Use the information in the book and move safely to the top of the stairs.
- Go along the gallery to your left.
- Open the nearest door on your left.
- You have a mallet & wooden stakes.
- You have wooden stakes & wish to fight the vampire.
- Fight Sk 7 St 8 Vampire.
- Take Iron Key.
- You may eat a meal here.
- Continue along the gallery.
- Go through the door.
- You have been here before & leave immediately.
- Go down the stairs into the great hall.
- Leave by the door you came in by.
- You have a crucifix.
- Fight Sk 7 St 9 Demons.
- Try the iron door in front of you.
- You have a large iron key.
- Fight Sk 6 St 4 Guard.
- Carry on down the corridor.
- Carry on down the corridor.
- If you possess no meals:
o Open the door on the right.
o Fight Sk 6 St 8 Guard.
o Restore 4 Stamina.
o You have a bag.
o Take up to 3 Meals (as you are carrying the bones).
o Turn right.
- Carry on down the corridor.
- You can interpret these signs.
- Add Sk 8 St 10 Ally.
- If you possess a meal, give it to ally (add 4 Stamina to ally, -1 Meal).
- You may eat a meal here.
- Turn right.
- If you did not follow the blue path previously:
o Try the door on your left.
o Fight Sk 6 St 8 Guard.
o Restore 4 Stamina.
o You have a bag.
o Take up to 3 Meals (as you are carrying the bones).
o Go left.
- Otherwise:
o Carry on down the corridor.
- Carry on down the corridor.
- Try to open the door on your left.
- Charge into the room and attack the four guards.
- Fight Sk 8 St 7 Guard.
- Fight Sk 7 St 6 Guard.
- Fight Sk 7 St 5 Guard.
- Fight Sk 5 St 4 Guard.
- Take Dungeon Keys.
- Turn right.
- Carry on down the corridor.
- Carry on down the corridor.
- You can interpret the signs.
- You have already opened this door.
- Walk on down the corridor.
- Try to think of another possibility.
- You have some large bones.
- Try the door.
- You have the Dungeon Keys.
- Tell the peasants to follow you.
- Turn left.
- You have the Dungeon Keys.
- You have provisions with you.
- Add note: Sir Falfax is with you.
- Walk on down the corridor.
