Generally I surf the web with an ad-blocker on, but turned off for any number of sites I use regularly and want to support – eg YouTube, a bunch of news sites, etc.
Until recently I had it turned off on this forum too. But twice over the summer I suddenly had a message pop up to say 'Your Flash player is out of date!' followed by a flip onto another website and a .dmg file automatically downloading which clearly wasn't anything to do with Flash. It's only ever happened whilst I've been on this site (it seemed pretty clear on checking my History that this site was involved in forwarding me), and hasn't happened since I re-enabled the ad-blocker, even though I wasn't clicking anywhere near an ad when s*** happened.
I probably need to fiddle with the security settings on my new laptop to stop things being downloaded so easily, but I wondered whether other people had had similar trouble...?
Seen this kind of scam on email and even on images that people share that suppose to be friendly and then infected the android tablet with bloatware s* from the store, never seen it on ads but it can happen.
