What, playing through the book and, as you die, the book instantly and spontaneously starts burning à là Mission: Impossible (the series, not the movies, please)? That would be an interesting concept... It would certainly have saved a lot of heartache.

I have been hard at work on a new solution. Do not tell you know who. My basic idea is to fight the Gargantis but I am not sure if this is a strategic advantage as it is about a 50% chance of success. One advantage is being able to use a round of luck against the erm thingy that can entangle your sword. Also this is much more ethical as you do not have to kill some random bloke to steal his jewellery. The ending is brutal as you are against Razaak with 3 reasonable rounds of luck and an equivalent amount of stamina. Roughly win against the Gargantis with 2 stamina left and then use 4 tots plus 2. So you are roughly at parity. This assumes a 16% chance of success to beat the iron eater. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣠⣴⣶⣿⣿⣷⣶⣄⣀⣀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣰⣾⣿⣿⡿⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣷⣦⡀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⢀⣾⣿⣿⡟⠁⣰⣿⣿⣿⡿⠿⠻⠿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣧⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣾⣿⣿⠏⠀⣴⣿⣿⣿⠉⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠈⢻⣿⣿⣇⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⢀⣠⣼⣿⣿⡏⠀⢠⣿⣿⣿⠇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠈⣿⣿⣿⡀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⣰⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡇⠀⢸⣿⣿⣿⡀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣿⣿⣿⡇⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⢰⣿⣿⡿⣿⣿⣿⡇⠀⠘⣿⣿⣿⣧⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⢀⣸⣿⣿⣿⠁⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⣿⣿⣿⠁⣿⣿⣿⡇⠀⠀⠻⣿⣿⣿⣷⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣿⣿⣿⣿⠃⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⢰⣿⣿⡇⠀⣿⣿⣿⠀⠀⠀⠀⠈⠻⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠟⠁⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⢸⣿⣿⡇⠀⣿⣿⣿⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠉⠛⠛⠛⠉⢉⣿⣿⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⢸⣿⣿⣇⠀⣿⣿⣿⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⢀⣤⣤⣤⡀⠀⠀⢸⣿⣿⣿⣷⣦⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⢻⣿⣿⣶⣿⣿⣿⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠈⠻⣿⣿⣿⣦⡀⠀⠉⠉⠻⣿⣿⡇⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠛⠿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣷⣤⡀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠈⠹⣿⣿⣇⣀⠀⣠⣾⣿⣿⡇⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠹⣿⣿⣿⣿⣦⣤⣤⣤⣤⣾⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡟⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠉⠻⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠿⠋⠉⠛⠋⠉⠉⠁⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠈⠉⠉⠉⠁ I have had a think about this post and the helpful hints other have posted. If you want to proclaim yourself a bigger fan than someone else, you should prove it by successfully completing Crypt of the Sorcerer (the published version, not any simplified fan edit) by the rules, without cheating, using a Skill 7, Stamina 14, Luck 7 character, and going back to the start every time you fail. No, it won't actually prove anything, but it'd keep this petty one-upmanship nonsense out of the forum for a decent while. Could you imagine a 'hardcore mode' Crypt where you don't even do that, but die permanently on your first unsuccessful attempt with normal stat rolling, unedited gamebook etc. etc.? Try that, Livingstone fanboys! There's a video game that has that as the premise. It's called You Only Live Once. If you die once, you can never play the game again because the main character is dead.

Does anyone know the probability of winning against Razaak if you have 12 skill and 9 luck so you can used 3 luck with a reasonable chance of success? The brutal 2 successive hit rule makes it hard to figure out.
I think the problem is you can say how many hits you need to make to win however it is more the case you do not know when you will lose and in what order.
Obviously after every 2 point stamina loss you then have to win or draw.
I have never worked this out but if you succeed and realise the 3 luck then you have reduced Razaak to 8 stamina. You then need to win 4 more rounds so 7 total. This suggests Razaak also has the chance of winning 7 rounds as the skill is at parity. Therefore you need 20 stamina as a minimum due to the equally brutal 6 stamina remaining rule.
I have now come to believe my fight the Gargantis solution is bogus due to not having enough stamina left to reach 400 so I am afraid we will have to continue to be highly unethical.

Reading through this thread made me chuckle a lot. I think I want to marry vagsancho! Or at least dedicate the rest of my life to studying him for the scientific benefit of discovering the secret to eternal happiness!

We all have FF we like others hate or FF we hate others like fightingfantazine.proboards.com/thread/1482/ff. Vagsancho's views are at least defensible, where I can't fathom why Mrs. Giggles reckons War With The Evil Power Master is a really good gamebook, CYOA or otherwise. As you've pointed out Crypt Of The Sorceror's main problem is the difficulty; it isn't like Gates Of Death or Sky Lord where most things about it are a bit flawed and we couldn't imagine anyone thinking it was one of their favourites. And some people - many people - just don't think difficulty matters (I'm not one of them - I hate Spellbreaker chiefly on the basis of its high difficulty).

Mrs. Giggles reckons War With The Evil Power Master is a really good gamebook Someone has managed to come up with a phrase that makes less sense than Stephen Fry's "Hold the newsreader's nose squarely, waiter, or friendly milk will countermand my trousers."

Someone has managed to come up with a phrase that makes less sense than Stephen Fry's "Hold the newsreader's nose squarely, waiter, or friendly milk will countermand my trousers." Doesn't the Monty Python's "Dirty Hungarian Phrasebook" sketch have enough of those?
"My hovercraft is full of eels" always gets me.

On-topic, a question:
We are told to go and search for Razaak's father in a cemetery supposedly between Stonebridge and Mirewater and you end up entering a forest. Darkwood Forest, perchance? In that case, why didn't "we" find that cemetery in "Forest of Doom" - same issue with "Eye of the Dragon"?

Mirewater is west of Stonebridge, so I don't think it's Forest of Doom to the south.

I dont have Crypt yet but i have ordered it couple days ago because a nice review of it on youtube. As i also check for other reviews and impressions i have found great joy reading Vagsancho poetic ode shots on the book, i mean, on Razaak Really found it very cool and it raised my curiosity even more to: feel what he felt, see what he saw, looking deep in the eyes of the sorcerer... Anyways, lot of folks got kinda angry in vagsancho but i think he may be like a genius that people cant comprehend cause being ahead of his time... or maybe hes just playing around with a mix of truth and irony.
