5th try - uh oh, it's Fireday and although I had encountered the shrieking man before, I didn't have the right item and got killed by shriekers. 6th shot Killed by the cardinal (should have brought a better weapon with me) And that's a fail. Noticed more than one of you saying this book was a bit easy? - having looked at the walk through, I suppose I would have got there eventually, but it would have been a result of a 'Livingstone style' trial and error way. I reckon I would probably have needed a dozen shots in total to win. Which I wouldn't have wanted to do, as I've seen a huge amount of the book already and was getting bored...... Nb - the spine of my book is still in perfectly good nick! - what on earth are you guys daein? It’s nice to see Six Shotties making a return, I used to look forward to reading your attempts. I haven’t completed the newest FF books yet but I’m looking forward to giving them a go soon.

Congratulations! I will be buying for sure. Im not sure where you find the time and energy, but you obviously have a gift for it. Its quite inspiring. Bless you. Thank you Dragonwarrior8. I write and draw a lot at night, usually into the early hours. It is hard and I am tired most of the time, but I really love the genre so it’s worth the effort. Thank you for your interest in my book, it is really appreciated.

Hi everyone. I hope you are all well. I released my first gamebook, The Demon Sorcerer, a few years ago. I know that a few of you lovely people gave it a read, so I just wanted to let you know that I’ve finished my second gamebook, Army of Bones. It took me six years to create, a lot longer than I expected, but if you would like to give it a try, it’s up for sale in a few places. You can find out more of my Facebook page: www.facebook.com/dllewisgamebooks. Thanks everyone. Have a great week.

While it's not a champskees/johnbrawn1972-style walkthrough, my blog post on the book describes a successful attempt, so it would at least provide guidelines. Then again, Crypt is one of the easier books in the series, so why not try beating it without help? I would second what Greenspine said. Great book with a moderate difficulty, so best played without a walkthrough. That said, I always find it enjoyable to check out other people’s attempts after I’ve completed a book, so I’ll check your attempt, Greenspine.

You should have a far easier time with Port of Peril. I’m anticipating a win on this one. I’ll be intrigued to discover your overall thoughts on it.

I can’t recall my kill total, but I think you did pretty well on your second attempt. I never legitimately made it past Zombie Kong, so it will be interesting to see how far your six shotties gets you.

Obviously up to you, Steven, but I’d take Greenspine’s advice on this and go for an authentic result. You’re going to die, I’m afraid to say, so you may as well do it by the rules in the book.

Thanks for the link to my book, Mudworm. The Demon Sorcerer is a bit larger than a fighting fantasy book, and the upcoming sequel has a linked storyline, meaning that you can continue your adventure with the same character. The books can be read separately but also add up to form a large quest, so you might like it, Lozano. Phil has given you some good recommendations too.

Only 19 attempts LordOmnibok? I dont think I had even found the conch shell trumpet yet by my 19th attempt. lol. The Temple of Flame is an absolutely beautifully written book. Unfortunately a couple of design decisions detract from it somewhat. As Greenspine pointed out, the means to access the trumpet area is really stupid. Why would you flee from Doom if he is never in danger of beating you? You are supposed to be the greatest warrior in the world are you not? I also need to ask, is there a way around the Nightmare Guard on the balcony overlooking the room with the screens? This guy gave me no end of grief. He has a 1 in 6 chance of one-hit killing you each time he tags you. On average he would hit me twice every time I met him, therefore one-third of my attempts (more actually, 37%) ended right here. Even FLEEing is instant death! This was incredibly frustrating. I would have thought if there was a way around him I would have found it but maybe not if anyone knows one. I got to know this book inside out but my memory is now a little patchy and I'm unsure if you actually have to fight the Nightmare Guard. I completed it fairly easily though, once I had pinned down the best route. I agree, beautifully written but extremely tough. I'll keep my walkthroughs for the next books in the series, incase anybody on here has more questions like that.

(Because it has to be done...) Xmassassins of AllansiaMerry Christmas Kieran, hynreck, greenspine, Alex, deadshadowrunner, lordomnibok, sylas, champskees, Steven Doig, John Brawn, tammy (wherever you are), daredevil123, schlendrian, dragonwarrior8, nathanh, vastariner, Blackheart, bloodbeasthandler, offm, Pete Byrdie, Phil Sadler, wilf, Klea, paltogue and everyone else, especially the newbies! (It's no longer reasonable to try to list everyone, which is good news.) Thanks Mudworm. Also, well done to Champskees for his DM marathon. I haven’t been posting on here as much as I used to, but I still read the new posts most days. On that note, i’ll probably give Festivities of Fury another read over the break. Anyway, Merry Christmas everyone, I hope it’s a good one for all ! 😁

Jings! - I've played through the original 59!! A wee recap is in order I think Failures - 24 failures - House Of Hell, Seas Of Blood, Sword of The Samurai, Trial of Champions, Masks of Mayhem, Creature of Havoc, Crypt Of The Sorcerer, Chasms of Malice, Sky Lord, Armies Of Death, Fangs of Fury, Black Vein Prophecy, Tower Of Destruction, Crimson Tide, Seige Of Sardath, Return to Firetop and books 52-59 (which is ridiculous!) & 7 where I needed max stats - Deathtrap Dungeon, Space Assassin, Temple Of Terror, Rebel Planet, Robot Commando, Battleblade Warrior & Master Of Chaos I’m actually quite disappointed that you’ve reached the end of the original 59. I’ve really enjoyed reading about your adventures so far. It has been interesting. Thanks.

Displaying my ignorance here: what are the murderous biscuits at 0.51?) I did have a quick peek at the vid but missed what you were referring to (I'm working so cant look for long.) Murderous biscuits sound suspiciously like the Wheelies to me though, (from Citadel of Chaos.)

Yeah, that's the problem with written comments : They can be completly taken the wrong way. So, don't worry, no offense taken and thanks for the ... err ... let's call it welcome. I'm doing all the FF books and google brought me here for the walkthrough, so I'm not sure I'll post much, but if it appears I'll extend my stay, I'll make an official account. Ah well, it's all been cleared up in a friendly manner, that's all that matters in the end. Welcome to the forum and good luck with getting through the books. Speaking of stevendoig's attempts, I do hope he finishes his marathon at some point as it was a great read, imo, though I certainly understand his need for a break.

I've only read the original FotW, so I didn't realise significant changes had been made to the later prints of that book.

After several decades I am reading book 2 again German, this time the Mantikor release. I did not remember so many random decision even worse in my memory I liked this one very much. While I kinda understand that on the ship wind, weather and the sea are kinde random. I find that very lazy work for the carriage ride. The Who-Dun-It elemnt is great, as a kid it took several attempts to find the assassin. as an adult it is kinda obvious. If only book 1 and 2 would exist, it would be great adventure and those would have sparked a lot of fan fiction. With the release of book 30 a while ago, this is just the humble beginnings. The German edition comes with an additional adventure. is that German exklusive (afaik like some of the Italian ones) or was it released elsewhere? The cover motive is kinda weak in this edition. The Swedish one is way more engagin. Even compared to the original. I have an early print which does not include an extra story. I love FotW. I didn't find the carriage moment lazy, but I guess it's personal taste whether you like that approach; I was fine with it. FotW is up there with my favourite Gamebooks, thanks to the beautifully constructed story. I have great memories of this book.

Demons of the Lost Temple. Actually sounds like a sequel to my book haha. Dang thats pretty good. You need to use that now! I got Journey of Chaos. Kind of vague. lol. I was hoping for Unicorn From Hell ! Na, second book title is sorted. Unicorn from Hell though haha. If that was a genuine gamebook title, I think I would have to read it 😆

I would say Greenspine’s advice is pretty spot on. Respawning could often cause more trouble than good. With some of the books, restarting and exploring different routes can feel like reading a whole new adventure. But there are a few linear entries that can test one’s resolve in this matter.

Hey all, Mike here...Like most I played the hell out of these books as a kid and now re-discovering the fun in my "grown-up" years. Currently playing Caverns of the Snow Witch, one of my very favourites from back in the day. But about to re-play Sorcery! and very excited to re-live them 30+ years later. Welcome to the forum Mike.

4 is a Chaos Champion from Trial of Champions. 8 is the Scarachna from Bloodbones. I had a hunch that 12 was from Temple of Terror, looks like some frilly palace thing Leesha might have. Turns out it is from Temple of Terror, still not quite sure what it is though even from the full illustration. A carpet maybe? Aha! A distant memory kept telling me that 4 was from DD; now I get why.

I would guess that 10 is Balthus Dire’s knee from Citadel of Chaos. I recall that he was looking at that map when I burst into his room to kill him, many moons ago.
I’m really struggling with 4, 8 and 12. 4 is a hand holding a weapon, 8 is presumably a spider spitting web, but I can’t decipher what 12 is supposed to be.

I quite enjoyed ND, though I was lucky enough to scrape a narrow victory on my first attempt, I think... Anyway, I just wanted to support kieran and Bloodbeast's posts. Maybe that gamebook fatigue hasn't worn off quite yet Stevendoig but I'm confident you'll get a win out of this one. I'm still enjoying reading about your attempts

Kradon Skill 6 Stamina 4 (due to his age) Luck 12 This made me laugh out loud. Vagsancho, you're going to have to use all that luck just to survive climbing into the well with those stats. Unfortunately I haven't got time at the moment to get involved with this adventure, but I shall be following it when I can as I think it's going to be awesome. Good luck all!

2 sets of Fighting Fantasy Top Trumps now available in the Facebook group 'Fighting Fantasy (and other gamebooks)' under the Files section. I made these for fun but feel free to print and play. Ah, so it was you who made these. It was also quite nice playing 'guess the book' from the illustrations. Thanks

I really liked SS because of its uniqueness, but I can see why it could be a bit of a marmite book; not for everyone.
