Another thing you get from killing the High Priest is the ability to get the higher-tier Armour if you do Carnex before the Armour quest. But the High Priest is a hard fight and some of the Dreamtime fights are also hard so doing them without the armour is probably not a good tradeoff for the extra attack strength point in the final battle (e.g. you want to defeat the dream dragon). Skill 12 Luck 12 is probably happy to try this route but should be winning comfortably anyway.
If you want to show off, doing Carnex early does let you circumvent the "you need two of the three artefacts to continue" restriction, if you want to say you beat the Night Dragon with only one item. I don't think even max-stats characters can really hope to pull this off though.

Night Dragon is a book that is deceptively easy. A high stat hero doesn't have to work out which order to do things in and can fare just as well if he did everything randomly. A below average hero has to work out the best way through so the order in which to visit places becomes more of a puzzle to solve. For this book, I prefer the latter option because I get to enjoy the challenge more.

From TUFFF... One major problem with the book seems to be that unless you blunder straight to the final fight, the Night Dragon himself is a complete pushover. Only weak characters will find him tricky and they're extremely unlikely to get that far anyway. Also why are there A=1 B=2 devices in the middle of the fight? Really breaks up the tension (and is it just me or does the one on section 388 send you to the wrong section). Still this book has some of the best illustrations in the series. And God I love that cover. I've found The Night Dragon a well-designed, tough opponent against Avatars with high skill but low stamina, particularly when I've had to spend extra days working to bring up my gold total. My own bugbear is the Night Dragon Skull fight afterwards; its so anticlimactic. I also wish the rules would specify whether your weapons special bonuses against the Dragon affect the Dream Dragon and the Night Dragon Skull.

When you return from dreamworld do you think you should reset your stamina to your initial level or keep it as it is? The text doesn’t state but if you die your stamina is 0 so wouldn’t make sense to leave it at that.

When I play Night Dragon I record my Stamina before entering Dreamtime and restore it back to that when I return.

Another Dreamtime question. Assuming you have sword, shield and armour when fighting the Dream Dragon would you give yourself the +6 attack strength bonus (assuming the Dream Dragon is the Night Dragon) or just the +3 Attack Strength bonus (as it’s not really the Night Dragon)?

I would be inclined not to take the full bonus, but I wouldn't accuse anyone who did of cheating.

My general rule is that in case of rules ambiguity, take the most literal reading of the rules. If it's still not clear, go with the least beneficial interpretation.

Then you are a stickler for the rules - I would say my own interpretation was somewhere in the middle, recognising the Skill cap with the Kris Knife but not the Skill cap in Port Of Peril. Like Arnold Rimmer, my own rule is, if it's ridiculous and makes no sense, disregard it.
