I've recently been really enjoying the gothic horror ff books (Martin's vampire books, Stephen Hand's books) and was wondering if there are any other gamebooks out now in a similar vein? Apparently Jonathan Green has got a Dracula book out next year, but are there any available now?

Dave Morris' Crypt of the Vampire? JH Brennan did a couple of horror themed books too.

There are the Cthulhu CYOA-style gamebooks that have just come out. There were also a couple of Cthulhuesque books in the mid-1980s under the Forbidden Gateway banner.

If something a bit more naughty is your thing, I recently read on kindle a bit of interactive 'erotica' that has a pretty dark flavour. No stats or dice rolling. And I don't know to what extent this is a family forum so I won't name it, but you can message me.

You can always take a go at Mark Lain's amateur adventure Legacy of the Vampire here: linkit's adventure number 6.

I have no series additional suggestions. Hynreck (what's happened to him? he's been silent for a year) wrote some pretty substantial reviews of the JH Brennan Horror Classics books in the Other Minor Gamebook Series section if of interest.

I'll give those a try (except maybe the naughty ones). Thanks for your help.
I remember reading JH Brennans Dracula and Frankenstein when I was a mere lad, but they seem to go for a fair bit on eBay.

I haven't read it, but I remembered seeing a gamebook that might fit the requirements so I had a search for it. It's called Nightshift by Victoria Hancox. It seems to have very good reviews on Amazon. Has anyone played this?

If thats one of the "nicer" efforts I found on my google search, it seems to be a CYOA about being a prostitute - so some very unsavoury content is probable. I didn't want to look into it any further, especially as it was #26 out of #30 on one list and after checking for info about the first few, I didn't want to look into any more, so could be wrong.

Think you have the wrong book! In Nightshift, you play a nurse trapped in a hospital that is infested with demons.

[/a] Hynreck (what's happened to him? he's been silent for a year) [/div][/quote] I do not know if it is accurate but I have heard somewhere that he is studying now to become a priest. I hope that is right. We need a lot of those in this moment in this world.

We need a lot of those in this moment in this world. Well that seems unlikely, but as it's coming from you I won't question it for a second. Don't you think that (on your view) his lack of philosophy in favour of science is a problem for the career in the priesthood though?
Hynreck? Ow i know him a little bit... A mathemathic.. A logic man... A great man of sciences.. No philosophy though.

There are many CYOA type things for kindle that, as far as I'm concerned, contravene Amazon's own rules. I'd never suggest any of those, but I recently finished one mostly set in an old house with a supernatural menace which I found interesting and thought would have been more fun as a straight CYOA or gamebook (depending on how you define those things). But, I'm a folklore nerd, and there were several references to folklore that I enjoyed. Also, it made me laugh in places.

There's Dane Barrett's The Mystery of Dracula. You seen that? Very puzzle orientated though, rather than focussed on role-playing or branching paths.

I think I'll get that mystery of Dracula next.
I've just got the demon sorcerer by D L Lewis. The premise is similar to dead of night, you are a demon hunter and can choose from a list of special skills. The mission is to destroy a demon and there is a map to follow. The atmosphere is very similar to dead of night, and I would actually say the illustrations are better. There is even a horde of demons attack at an inn.
The end game is better developed, i.e. the demons lair has more to explore. probably need to map it out, I've not completed it yet, but it looks good so far.
