I think the sci-fi books were generally written with zero reference to one another or any attempt to set them in the same timeline. But I think with just a bit of creativity, one could perhaps develop a timeline where all the books could be inserted. Here's my first stab:
- Due to various unbelievable circumstances, superhumans become very common in the 1980s, particularly around the Titan City area as depicted in Appointment with FEAR
- A deadly plague sweeps the world, reducing it to isolated communes trying to rebuild society and defend themselves from rampaging gangs. Most of the superhumans of the 1980s die of the plague and the ensuing violence. Due to increasing trade and communication by the communes (such as between New Hope and San Anglo as depicted in Freeway Fighter) society is gradually rebuilt.
- Society is rebuilt on a global rather than a national scale and soon eclipses the state it was in before the plague. Eventually spaceships with faster than light capabilities are developed and Earth begins to colonise other planets, wiping out the native inhabitants. This expansion ceases when an attempt to colonise Arachnos leads to defeat by the Arcadians who takeover the Terran Empire and subjugate Earth. The Arcadians decide to link their minds to a computer creating a vulnerability where a human agent (as depicted in Rebel Planet) is able to destroy this computer and reduce the Arcadians to mindless vegetables. They are quickly massacred and Earth is free.
- Now free of the Arcadians, humanity begins to expand to the stars once more, colonising several planets. This creates new opportunities for criminal activity, especially the narcotics industry. The Earth authorities were finally moved to try to crack down on these drug rings (The Rings of Kether).
- As Earth continues to expand, its focus becomes less on colonising planets for resources and more on exploration and voluntary alliances. This leads to a new golden age of space exploration and many exciting discoveries are made. One ship even finds whole new universe accessible by safely traversing a black hole (Starship Traveller)
- A new enemy arises in the galaxy, the Gromulan Empire of the Purple Flag. Confronted by the first real threat since the Arcadians, the Terran government loses much territory to the Gromulans, including Earth itself. A period of deadlock ensues which the Gromulans try to break by kidnapping the Terran President but a bounty hunter is able to rescue him (Star Strider)
- The Terran government continues to fade, but the Empire of the Purple Flag has spread itself too thin to successfully fill the void. The galaxy becomes increasingly lawless, local authorities having to use mercenaries and assassins to enforce any semblance of law and order such as hiring an assassin to capture the crazed scientist Cyrus before he can use the sector of Od as a biological experiment (Space Assassin).
- The last remnants of the Terran government and the Empire of the Purple Flag are swept away by the rise of two new powers in the galaxy: the Fethps and the Deik. These powers carve up the galaxy between them - although humans and Gromulans are still common across the galaxy, they have no political power anymore. It is however a time of great technological advance with the development of light-warp and time-warp technologies that allow vast differences to be travelled in a matter of seconds. This technology allows Metron the Mapmaker to map every planet in the galaxy, including the mysterious Titan where magic is said to really exist (Spectral Stalkers).
- A human named Ari Skyfarer successfully leads a rebellion against the Fethps and the Deik. Skyfarer becomes the new galactic emperor and the Council of Star Kings is formed, and the Long Peace ensues. But there are always powers hoping to subjugate the galaxy once more. The crazed Ensulvar scientist L'Bastin attempted to do so by breeding the perfect biological soldiers, the Prefectas, but his scheme was foiled by the Ensulvar Sky Baron Jang Mistral (Sky Lord).
