Stealer of Souls is a fairly standard adventure. But it is relatively well designed. Hardly any insta-deaths and a character that misses quest items has a chance of making it through. I recommend a Skill of 9+ for this adventure. I didn’t like the magic rules though; they were not clear enough for me. According to the rules, I could cast a Speed spell at the beginning of a combat. I would cast it when I made it to the top of the stairs when fighting the final opponent, not before...
- Stay & fight the menace.
- Fight Sk 8 St 12 Giant Stormbird.
- You made no attempt to run away.
- Restore Stamina to full.
- Take Jar of Ointment.
- Try to row to shore quickly & get away (2 Damage).
- Greet him in return.
- Accept his offer.
- Take Message Scroll.
- Add note: Scroll date numbers ‘350’.
- Take 3 Food.
- Lose 2 Food.
- Head north.
- Settle down to sleep immediately (-1 Food).
- Stay where you are and say ‘hello’ or something similar.
- Agree to help the lizard.
- Test Skill. Fail = 2 Damage & repeat until successful.
- Fight Sk 7 St 12 Giant Stormbird.
- Take 3 Gold Pieces, Silver Medallion & Rose Pearl.
- You have some treasure.
- Test Luck.
o Success:
o Tell him you may spare his life after all (+2 Stamina).
o Take 3 Luck Powders (each restores 1 Luck point).
o Fail:
o Lose all your gold pieces.
- Go south (2 Damage).
- If you still have gold pieces:
o Offer them a Gold Piece (-1 Gold, +2 Stamina).
o You have treasure & are willing to trade (+3 Stamina).
o Take Ebony Key, Small White Gem, Phial of White Oil & 2 Food (-2 Gold, trade Rose Pearl).
- If you have no gold pieces:
o Try to greet them in some way.
o You have treasure & are willing to trade (+3 Stamina).
o Take Small White Gem, Phial of White Oil & 2 Food (trade Rose Pearl).
- Sleep peacefully in the comfortable hut (+1 Luck).
- Use Message Scroll numbers ‘350’. Go to para 350.
- Continue on the trail (-1 Food).
- Fight Sk 5 St 5 Goblin.
- Fight Sk 5 St 6 Goblin.
- Take Bone Dice.
- Go through the west door.
- Go south.
- Give the statue your small white gem (+1 Luck).
- The western passage turns south; you want to take this path.
- Open the east door.
- Try using the phial of white oil to lubricate the lock.
- Take 3 Blocks of Incense.
- Press on southwards.
- Continue south.
- Fight Sk 4 St 5 Orc.
- Fight Sk 5 St 6 Orc.
- Take 1 Gold Piece.
- Open the door to the south.
- Press on eastwards.
- Open the door.
- Fight Sk 5 St 6 Orc.
- Test Skill + 1. Fail = D6+1 Damage.
- Fight Sk 9 St 12 Dark Priest.
- Search the bodies (+1 Gold).
- Try the door to the east (+2 Stamina, +1 Food).
- You have blocks of incense.
- Each block will now restore 3 Stamina each when used.
- If Skill is 11+ & you have an Ebony Key:
o Open the southern door (+2 Stamina).
- If Skill is 10 or less or you do not have an Ebony Key:
o Stay still & listen for noise (+2 Stamina).
o Roll D6.

o Open the east door.
o Kill him (-1 Luck).
o Search the room.
o Take Chainmail Armour (+1 Initial Skill) & Crowbar.
• 2-6:
o Open the east door.

o 1-3:
• Kill him (-1 Luck).

o 4-6:
• Fight Sk 6 St 8 Guard.
• Take Crowbar.
• Test Luck. Success = Take Chainmail Armour (+1 Initial Skill).
- Sit down & eat some food (+3 Stamina).
- Ignore him & get up & leave through the west door.
- Take the western passage.
- Investigate the east door at the end of the side passage.
- If you have an Ebony Key:
o Enter the room.
o Fight Sk 8 St 12 Diadrone.
o Test Luck. Fail = Try to open the chest again (-1 Skill, 6 Damage).
o You have an Ebony Key.
- If you do not have an Ebony Key:
o Batter down the door (2 Damage).
o Enter the dark, forbidding room.
o Fight Sk 8 St 12 Diadrone.
o Test Luck. Fail = Try to open the chest again (-1 Skill, 6 Damage).
o You do not have an Ebony Key.
o You have a crowbar.
o Try again to open it (3 Damage & -1 Food or 2 Damage).
- Take Bronze Ring & Platinum Amulet.
- Cross to the east door & look around it.
- Attack him.
- Fight Sk 8 St 14 Half-Ogre Torturer.
- Give Alsander some food (-1 Food).
- Choose Speed, Dispel Illusion & Dispel Fear spells. Note Dispel Illusion can be used twice.
- Fight Sk 8 St 6 Dark Elf.
- Fight Sk 7 St 5 Dark Elf.
- Take 8 Gold & 6 Food.
- Take the Yellow Passage.
- Cast Dispel Illusion on Eagle-Illusion.
- Follow the green path.
- Do not open Golden Flask.
- Take Golden Flask.
- Run towards the light as fast as you can (2 Damage).
- Take the rainbow coloured path.
- Let the figure touch you (+1 Skill, +4 Stamina, +1 Luck (luck can go over initial score).
- Take the azure passage.
- Cast Dispel Fear (2 Damage from first round of combat).
- Fight Sk 9 St 10 Death Skull.
- Walk down the frosty passage
- Stay & say a prayer for the souls of the dead here (+1 Skill, +1 Luck).
- Take the dark brown, earthy passage.
- Fight the Skeletal Illusion.
- You have a Silver Medallion.
- Follow the violet passageway.
- Cast a Dispel Illusion spell (2 Damage, -1 to your Skill for next combat, -4 Stamina to enemy).
- You are not wearing a headband.
- Fight Sk 8 St 12 Spider Illusion.
- Race up the right hand set of stone steps.
- You are wearing a bronze ring (1 Damage).
- Cast speed spell (-2 Skill to opponent).
- Fight Sk 10 St 17 Mordraneth.
- A great sigh is audible all round you, as if from hundreds of thousands of souls freed from a dreadful imprisonment of endless torment. Perhaps Captain Garaeth will already be waiting to take you back to Pollua, to the glory and rewards you have so richly earned. Sheathing your sword for the last time, you stride upwards to find out.
