Looks like the tickets are on sale for the event happening 03 September 22, for the 40th anniversary.
As well as the two founders of FF ...
Fighting Fantasy Fest 4 will also feature other talks and panels, gaming sessions, signings, a selection of traders, and numerous other special guests, including authors Rhianna Pratchett, Jamie Thomson, Peter Darvill-Evans, and Jonathan Green, artists John Sibbick, Malcolm Barter, Tony Hough, Mel Grant, and Rob Ball, and original commissioning editor Geraldine Cooke.
I'm a bit worried that Russ Nicholson doesn't seem to be be going. He has attended all the others. Anyone know if he's ok? It's a pity Dave Morris isn't on that list either - his FF43 ought to get him a place if he wants it, and I thought he lives round London or thereabouts so it wouldn't be a long journey for him? I'd like to see a number of the authors that aren't on the list there - Mark Smith and Jamie Thomson (who is attending) would go well together, like Paul Mason and Steven Williams. Writers that have collaborated on work together can jog each other's memories and re-remember things.
Stephen Hand, and artists Peter Andrew-Jones and John Blanche are others that have not attended in the past and don't appear to be coming to this one either.

Many other guests have been invited, some are unable to come and some have yet to confirm.

Writers that have collaborated on work together can jog each other's memories and re-remember things. Nice of you to mention me, but don't forget I live in Japan. I haven't been invited, either. Actually, I wouldn't mind going, if only to see Darvers after all these years and apologise for being such a terrible employee. And of course to run into some the denizens of this forum. My classes don't restart until September 16th so it's feasible. Assuming there are any flights, of course. There's no air or express mail to the UK at the moment.

Sorry to hear about Russ, though. Hope he gets well soon.

Russ has been very unwell during lockdown. He has been invited, but it all depends on whether he is well enough to travel nearer the time. I'm sorry to hear that, and was worried that was the case. Hopefully he'll be well enough to come - it would be nice to see him make it for the 40th. Many other guests have been invited, some are unable to come and some have yet to confirm. I do hope that those who can come do come. Hopefully the summer will have seen a real downturn in any viruses being spread and people will feel more confident about going back out into crowded areas (if that is what is holding them back). I like to see writers and artists who have been responsible for creating a lot of enjoyment for folks over the years get a pat on the back and a round of applause from the fans, and I'm always interested in what they've got to say about their work. I haven't been invited, either. I hope that changes, then! I haven't been invited, either. Actually, I wouldn't mind going, if only to see Darvers after all these years and apologise for being such a terrible employee. That's it, it's an opportunity to catch up with people as well. At FFF2 (?) I remember seeing some of the old GWers - I think it was Jamie T, Peter Darvill-Evans and Marc Gascoigne having a cup of coffee and a natter over at one of the tables, surely talking about the good old days. Assuming there are any flights, of course. There's no air or express mail to the UK at the moment. The flights might not be the worst transport problem. There's talk of a national rail strike over the summer (does September count as summer? maybe, maybe not..). Strikes plus rising inflation - I reckon we're regressing into the 1970's. I might have to start sporting longer hair and sideburns and start getting into football hooliganism.

@sleepy Scholar what are you doing in Japan if you don't mind? Teaching? Yes. I've been working at a Zen Buddhist university for the last 13 years. I suppose for full disclosure I should mention again that my field of research is fan studies. That means you! I do a bit of translation/editing/voiceover work as well (for example this) but draw the line at appearing on Japanese TV in a ridiculous suit.

I hope that changes, then! I'm not holding my breath. Bear in mind I have never been invited to one of these things. (Edit: I've checked, and this is incorrect) As for the trains, since I don't drive, that would be a killer for me. I remember the 70s; apart from the flares and Glitter/Savile, they weren't this bad!

I'm not holding my breath. Bear in mind I have never been invited to one of these things. I didn't know that. Initially I had assumed you had other commitments or your physical distance from Europe was behind your not attending FFF. But then I did notice that you attended Manticon over in Heppenheim in Germany in 2018 .. so that got me wondering what the score was. Surely you and Steve W have been forgiven for ruining Livingstone's carpet by now (and wasn't he gone by the time you did that anyway?)?

My post above was wrong. I just checked, and Jon did invite me to the first one (2014?) and he may not have invited me this time because I was unable to make that one.

Please don't assume that because someone's name isn't on the list that they haven't been invited. Potential guests have often declined for one reason or another. For example, Dave Morris as been invited to the last few FFFs but he has always had prior committments. In the case of Russ Nicholson, he has been very unwell for the last couple of years. We have ours collective fingers crossed that he will be able to attend this year, but it really depends on how he is feeling closer to the event.

I'd love to attend one of these, but NZ is a long way and costly. Plus it is always on in the middle of a school term.

I'd love to attend one of these, but NZ is a long way and costly. Plus it is always on in the middle of a school term. Only a bit further than Japan! Only kidding (though actually it would be great to see you there). We should have a forum meet up for coffee at some point in the day! Some indication of forum names would be good, though rather than trying to corral people to a meet-up based on stuff written on badges, it might be better to decide in advance a time and place to meet up. The trick will be to fit it around the events that are taking place. I'd like to show up, but I have something on at 11 with Peter D-E, Marc and Keith Phillips. And again at 2pm with Marc. By the looks of things, the last event is Ian McCaig at 4pm, so some time after that would work.

I'm thinking of going to the Fest but it'll be my first one - can anyone give me a rough idea of what to expect? It's in a big food court kind of place with conference rooms to the side. Authors and artists do talks in the side rooms. In the main court, you have games going on and stalls from various gamebook authors - not just Fighting Fantasy ones. There's a bar/cafe off the main area. There are places to queue up and get various people to sign your books. There is a schedule out(?) Or coming out so you can plan where to go and when. It's very friendly and laid back. There's a pub opposite the building where people go afterwards. There are plenty of car parks nearby and they will have plenty of spaces because it's a weekend day.

I'm thinking of going to the Fest but it'll be my first one - can anyone give me a rough idea of what to expect? It is always a good idea to spend time planning what you intend to see, taking into account timings, because there are things going on simultaneously. There are some videos on Youtube that might be worth your looking at too, to get an idea. Just search under Fighting Fantasy Fest. I have been umming and erring about buying a ticket and will be leaving it til next week to buy one, probably. My travel will be an overland drive the day before with a stop-over outside London, followed by trains in and out on the day itself. What's worrying me are the trains - I don't want to buy tickets [Fest ticket plus train tickets] in advance only to find out there are strikes going on. I spoke to an RMT man in town yesterday about what me might expect for the coming month and he said to keep an eye on the news for proposed strike days - they announce the strikes in advance.

yes - When we have the schedule we can fit in a meet.
I'm not going to the quiz the night before but if anybody is going that would be a good place for people to see each other.
