From TUFFF (reconstructed as best I can)... How many helpful animals of one kind or another are there in the FF books? I mean real animals of one kind or another, whether they're proper companions or just useful. Has anyone ever come up with a full list? There are a lot of the books I just haven' t read so there are probably quite a few I've never heard of. Jesper the talking mongoose in Master of Chaos Keeeekweeeek (or however it's spelt), the dolphin in Demons of the Deep Tabasha the cat in Chasms of Malice Dirlin the bear in Portal of Evil (although he's really a human in bear form). Non- communicating but important/useful include: Caged birds in Portal of Evil Sabre-tooth tiger in Sword of the Samurai …no doubt there are a few in which you ride horses (or camels) too, but that's less interesting. Which one(s) are your favourite(s)? Are there any books which you think missed a trick by not including one, like an ice world which could have benefitted from a hearty axe-wielding penguin or two?

From TUFFF... Falcon? -Spellbreaker Ironhog - Legend of Zagor. But Jesper is best! An animal companion instead of Littlebig in EotD would have been better and more useful.

From TUFFF... An animal companion instead of Littlebig in EotD would have been better and more useful. An intestinal parasite would have been preferable to Littlebig in EotD.

From TUFFF... Not sure it counts as an animal, but Sky Lord has that man-eating thing that's put in the canister in the middle of your chest which can prove oddly helpful if it doesn't eat you first.

From TUFFF... I think all the books could have benefitted from an axe-wielding penguin!

From TUFFF... Am I to take it that none of the books I have yet to read include an axe-wielding penguin? Perhaps someone will pick up on the idea for a new book. Oh and yes, Jesper is a particular favourite of mine, too.

From TUFFF... If I ever get done with my fan follow-up to Caverns of the Snow-Witch, I'll make sure to include one .

From TUFFF... My favourite helpfull animal is Pegasus, in his crucial rescue journey to the top of the firetop mountain. Tired as I was, I would never be able to do that final "little step" without his help. Razaak's apprentice.

From TUFFF... What? I thought it might have been a code akin to what's found in Creature of Havoc.

From TUFFF... Probably just a comment about how sad he is at the lack of hum... er, animal sacrifices in the FF universe, though. . Speak in extremes, it will save you time.

There is also Hopper in Armies of Death, and the weird squirrel thingy in Space Assassin who can help you get past a guard if you don't know the answer to his question.

And let's not forget your hound and ghostly steed in Night of the Necromancer.

And also the bird who brings you the letter from Nicodemus in City of Thieves, though one could argue it is more unhelpful than helpful.
