Hi there! I know that there is an extensive article about the german FF-Books in Fighting Fantazine issue 9 by Nic from the Mantikore Verlag (biggest publisher of gamebooks here in germany). But I could post here something about it with more details (especially about the artwork and illustrations). Anyone interested?

Hello guys! I apologize for the late reply. Let's start with the covers. Some of them had the orignal covers, but many featured new artworks by different artist. I dislike many of the new covers. But one artist did some great new interpretations of the original ideas: Werner Blaebst. Werner Blaebst (*1949, † 2006) was a very productive german artist who had illustrated numerous childrens book. He is almost forgotten. I remember there was an epitath on the website of one of his publishers some years ago, but this epitath has disappeared. So I can't find any further informations about him now. Werner drew some alternate covers for the german editions of the Fighting Fantasy books published by Thienemann. Thienemann marketed the series as childrens books, so I guess that's the reason why the wanted new covers. Many of the new covers looks terrible (especially "Starship Traveller"). But the covers Werner did looks great (in my opinion). Yes, they have a strong childrens book / fary tale flair. But if you take a closer look you see that Werner staid very close to the story. His warm and expressionistic clours creates a mythical atmosphere that appealled to me when I was a kid that was still very much into fary tales. I cannot post any pictures here. If you want to see the covers follow this link to a folder on my dropbox: www.dropbox.com/sh/smse3t41p702x75/AAB0pvBNBTL7BC6GMfn-Uezra?dl=0The covers were downloaded from gamebooks.org and were scanned by Falk Nußbaum, except "Masks of Mayhem" which was scanned by myself.
