I am not satisfied and look for variation to replay thge books and to use in my own stories. I have some ideas:
1. Use the difference in SKILL as damage instead of two 2. Assume the enemy always rolls a 7 3. Roll 3d6 and remove the lowest to rise average attack strength
Do you have other ideas or systems or house rules? Maybe using a damage table?

Interesting ideas. A few thoughts on them: 1. Do you mean Attack Strength rather than Skill here? If so, that could work pretty well though it might not necessarily go faster if you're fighting someone with a similar Skill as chances are you'd do 1 damage in a lot of rounds. 2. My only issue with this is it would greatly lower your chances against an opponent whose Skill is a fair bit higher than yours. For instance under the current rules, a Skill 8 character has a 10% chance of hitting a Skill 12 opponent in any given round. If the opponent has low Stamina (and Luck is used) then there is a slight chance. With your proposed new rule, the Skill 8 character will only hit a Skill 12 opponent in 3% of rounds. On the other hand, it would reduce the likelihood of an upset against a weaker opponent. 3. Would this be true of both the player character and the opponent or just the player? If the latter it would definitely tip the odds in favour of the player which could improve playability and make battles go a bit faster, if the latter it seems a bit cumbersome and probably would have a similar impact as Idea 2.

I though quickening combat would be best if rolling for the enemy is skipped but that has some caveats as you pointed out.
1. Ah yes your are right. I thought SKILL, but that makes no sense either. 2. This is true. A tougher enemy will be harder to HIT as it will never roll a lower attack strength. Or the enemy always rolls a 5 or 6. 3. Thought that I improve odds for the player and not rolling for the enemy at all.
