Last round citadel of chaos was eliminated. This is the final round to find out which two out of this group make it through to the finals. Just one vote each as there are only three books left.

I might sit this one out because I'm finding it hard to vote for any of them.

Sorry City, you're just not quite as good as the other two.

I like City of Thieves best in this group. Here is my defense, accounting for some of its perceived faults.
1. You spend a lot of time trying find items on a "shopping list". This is true, but CoT implements the shopping list design in the correct way by letting you know what items you are looking for in advance. Also, the list isn't super long, and it doesn't feel strange to find the items in question in a city setting, as it sometimes does in a dungeon. The shopping list is actually a good design element in CoT and what makes the book fun.
2. In the end, you just have to guess what items will kill Zanbar. Yes, this sucks if you guess wrong. However, the guessing results from a neat little narrative twist that introduces new tension just when you are congratulating yourself on how well you are doing. I like that aspect.
3. Zanbar's tower is fairly limited. Maybe so, but I think that it is atmospheric, and it emanates a distinct sense of danger just as you are approaching your end game. It makes Port Blacksand feel relatively safe in comparison.
4. The Moondogs encounter. No question, this encounter is too difficult, and it is a significant flaw in the design. My only defense is that it is a good callback to the introduction, and it demonstrates why the people of Silverton were so terrorized.
I like City of Thieves as both a story and a game. It just inches above the other two in my personal ranking.

I also like that it's a bit unconventionally designed with the Big Z not actually at the top. Really it's such a pity it's against my Number 2 and Number 3 of the whole series.

Voted House because translation of the most important riddle was buggy and the book was unresolvable without cheating... I sûre had voted City if I were english speaker

I enjoy City of Thieves more than House of Hell even though House has the better tale to tell.

City of Thieves created the atmosphere of a degenerate city. House of Hell was a new concept that was executed very well. The other one isn't quite as immersive or inspirational - a close 3rd.

From these 3 fabulous books, my favourite is house of hell, but i would say that for me, without doubts, the orher two would be better than house of hell, if i haven't done that little necessary structural change in House of Hell, which permits to the presence in the human sacrifice event in the path to the final victory. With that, for me, House of Hell is better than the others.

I suppose I shouldn't have voted for Crypt of the Sorcerer in the other thread either since I made mechanical changes to that.

What an interesting point. I didn't know someone did some alternate HoH version. I'd be glad to read/translate the sections.
