I've found second-hand copies of Murder in the Dark on two separate occasions (kept one, traded the other).
Mind you, I've also found three separate copies of Revenge of the Vampire for under £2 (no, I don't have the duplicates of that any more, either), so I may not be the best person to ask about how scarce a gamebook is.

May I ask when the most recent Revenge of the Vampire find was? Im starting to wonder about the odds of encountering any "treasures" out in the wild so any success stories would be encouraging.

Years ago. At the time I found the third one, I still lived in the house that I moved out of in 2008.

The point I was making was not that I didn't know which book you were referring to (which was indeed a book published after Slaves, and written by someone to whom I may have mentioned my idea for an army book: in fact I think I was going for a separate mini-series). It was that I didn't read that book. It was annoying enough that my idea had been gazumped (whether based on what I said, or independently conceived); I didn't want to read the book and discover it had been done badly. Sorry, with you, my original inference was on the right lines then! As for how well done the idea was: I think the book's placement in the rankings thread tells you all you need to know. I think it's fair to say that reading it wouldn't make you feel much better...file under 'uninspired'. Perhaps the line that could have been taken on this one in replying to any, 'But we've already had a FF book about armies and a battle' could have been, 'Yes, but this one will be done properly'

Would like to see an FF where you play an Orc or Troll or something, not just an Elf or Dwarf. Or someone who served the Riddling Reaver, someone neutral, such as a Druid.

The murder mystery genre has been done, in the "Sherlock Holmes" and "Super Sherlock" series.

I know you're talking about official, published FF books, but you may be interested in taking a look at Kieran's A Princess of Zamarra.

Go on a quest, defeat the baddie, save the damsel in distress... by the middle of the story. The second half giving a deeper story with connection to your previous actions.

You wanted The Wailing World, it appears! Similar but I wanted to keep it a damsel as 'a Prince in distress' sounds a less typical quest title and much less urgent The Wailing World still seems a great idea that I wish had gone ahead whether in Fighting Fantasy or some other format, perhaps even a new gamebook series...

I'd forgotten the synopsis made it a prince. As originally conceived, it was a princess. I think you are right, and my original instinct was correct.
