Anyone got any tips for a good digital sketch device or app, that could be used to annotate while playing gamebooks, even sketch maps etc. I am sure some of you have already done this. I suppose higher quality for sketching illustrations would be a whole other price level though`?

Apologies for the long wait for a reply. I've recently swapped to Affinity Desginer for drawing etc. since my Abode CS6 is now out of date and I'm not going to use Adobe's subscription service. It seems to be doing a good job. I also picked up a second-hand (but never used) Wacom tablet that seems to do the trick.

Sorry, missed that one too. Depending on your device, there are many ways to sketch maps and so on.
On smartphone/tablet, you can buy an active stylus for less than 20€. Then, pick any note app / sketch app like Google Keep or Evernote. Or some basic drawing app like Sketchbook.
On PC, you'll need a graphic tablet, with or without screen. Of course, screen tablets are way more expensive. I have one of each : an Wacom Cintiq for pro drawing and an XP Pen Deco 1 v2 for the rest (notes, photo manipulation, quick painting, etc.)
