Anyone got any suggested times for a meet-up? What does the Welcome amount to? I know it’s early on, but 9:45 or so could work. With the likely possibility that folks’ll run into each other again throughout the day.

Yes maybe 9.45. I planned to get there at 9.30 so as not to be too early, but 9;45 could be an idea.
We could make a thread on Monday to see who's coming.

That worked. Thanks. I'm not going to be hanging on too long, as I'm having dinner with Dave Morris and Tim Harford that evening. Anyone got any suggested times for a meet-up? Not sure if Dave or Tim post here. They don't.

Ooo is that Tim Harford as in the Undercover Economist? I didn't know he had a gamebook / fighting fantasy connection.

An early start means a swan round the traders' stalls without missing any of the programme. Yes maybe 9.45. .... We could make a thread on Monday to see who's coming. Yes, either a public thread or PM group if people so wish. I'll be there, unless some calamity befalls me. I've bought the FF ticket, just waiting for the train tickets to come through the post.

I'll be there! Checking out all the talks and hanging around the AFF stand. The pub quiz the night before is a lot of fun, and after FFF finishes, everyone heads over to the pub across the road, which is a good laugh too. Last year there was also a recovery lunch the next day as well.
Where do you all plan to meet at 9:45?

Not sure yet - where would be best? At one of the stands maybe?

Against all my antisocial, introvert tendencies (and relative FF-lightweight status) I have now booked a ticket so hopefully I'll see some of you there. It will be a shock to see you with things like faces and a third dimension rather than as e.g. bloodbeasts, animated books and balding greyfolk. Do people think it might be worth setting up a WhatsApp group for the day?

Yes a whatsapp group would be good - I won't have access to forum posts on the day.
There are some plans for some forum members to meet up at 9:45 before the first talk; I'm going to be posting a thread on Monday and then everybody who is going and wants to meet up can post there. I don't really want to post phone numbers on the forum though!
Will be good to meet up!

I've just remembered that I set up a WhatsApp group for gamebooks a while ago during Covid. Anyone who wants an invite send me a DM.

Lets set up one speficially for the fest on Monday - it will be better to have a dedicated one I think.
If you want to set it up that would be great!

Hello all!
A Couple of us on the forum are planning a meet up at FFF4, and this thread is to help people co-ordinate!
The plan is to meet at 9:45, and here is a link to the whatsapp group here - chat.whatsapp.com/IwkdVwRqULMG5IIdQoYzWg for better coordination on the day. If the link doesn't work then msg 'slloyd14' as he has been kind enough to set up the group!
The only thing we havn't finalised is location. Maybe just be the entrance to the hall? I think somebody suggested meeting near the Advanced Fighting Fantasy Stand but I thought that might be a bit harsh on the people running it to have a whole load of us forum people show up at 9:45!
Any will be good to see you all.
Six days to go!

I don't have Whatsapp because I don't own a phone able to connect to the internet.
The internet shows me what Stuart Lloyd looks like so I will commit his face to memory and try to locate him at 0945, and by doing so find the rest of you!

I'll be leaving it behind for the day, so before I go just have to remember to fill up its pool with enough (fresh?) acidic foetid filth to last it for the day. You should be able to recognise me by the mark of chaos I'll be sporting.

This is probably unnecessary, but perhaps it would be worth DM-ing one of us your phone number as a back up...?

I don't have WhatsApp because I'm from Japan, but if I'm up and there at 9:45 I'll hang around the entrance and use my honed detective skills ('Excuse me, are you guys the Fighting Fantazine meet-up?') to find people. Appropriately enough, I am currently staying in a hotel (The New Inn, Gloucester) that could be straight out of an FF book. I'm looking out on to the Inn courtyard as I write this.

View AttachmentHas a very good shout to be the oldest pub in England. Most claims (e.g. Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem) do not stand up to scrutiny but there's a consistent run of it being an inn since the 15th century - on the site of an older one.

Gloucester as a whole can be pretty FF, in its way, if you concentrate on and seek out the old time stuff. There are some other quite old pubs like the Sword Inn and the Fountain not far from the New Inn, too. Not only was some of Harry Potter filmed in the Cathedral, but there's King Edward II (the one murdered some say with a red hot poker) buried in the cathedral and so (somewhere) is the eldest son of William the Conqueror, Robert Curthose. There's an antiques shop in the old merchant's house in Westgate Street which is pretty FF - full of odds and ends - and with some precariously sloping steps near the top. I've not found a magic sword in there yet, but I did find a load of 2000AD comics (now all gone) going four for a pound which felt like a successful LUCK roll.

If you find a brass owl in a shop and give it to Ian Livingstone on the day, he will grant you magical powers.

Only in Britain would the oldest pub be called The New Inn.
