The poll is to choose your Five Favourite Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks. I will do the same for Gamebooks 21-40, 41-60 and so on the five top will go into another poll of 20 and then eventually down to one. I will end some time after Christmas. Last 20. There are not enough mainline ones so I added a few extra. Enjoy

This one is tough for me. Most are by my Favourite 3 Authors. 6 By Ian. 6 By Steve. 5 By Jonathon Green.
I chose: 1 Secrets of Salamonis (in my ranking it is second only to Deathtrap Dungeon) 2 Shadow of the Giants 3 Bloodbones (one of my first adventures when I started getting into FF) 4 The Shamutanti Hills
5 The Crown of Kings
There are so many good ones I expect that probably all 4 Sorcerys and Howl of the Werewolf will get through. There will probably be loads with no votes, at least like Blood of the Zombies and Gates of Death. By the way I will be away from midday Tomorrow to Wednesday so I won't reply or post more polls till then.

Peak Jon Green. All four of his books plus The Crown of Kings for me. Not quite all of his books. He co-wrote Secrets of Salamonis.

Peak Jon Green. All four of his books plus The Crown of Kings for me. All five of Jonathan Green's books here (counting SOS) are him at his best, so it's just as well they're up against the four Sorcery! gamebooks, each of which are really good. Which leaves the mid-scholastic range standing - COS, POP, GOD, AOA, BOTZ - I'll be amazed when they get one vote (presumably from FF fans who only have them in their collection), even though they're perhaps better than we sometimes think. That's not snobbery, they're just up against phenomenal gamebooks.
Edit: Blood Of The Zombies has a vote? I guess the concept is a lot better than the execution, and so I can see why a Livingstone fan might vote for it (think I know who it might be).

I went with:
Bloodbones Howl of the Werewolf Stormslayer Khare Crown of Kings
I feel Secrets of Salamonis should probably have got a spot but haven't played it enough yet to be sure it's as good as it seems.

I was well into adulthood before I played any of these (middle-aged adulthood for most of them). They don't really resonate with me as "favourites" like the FFs I played growing up do. I ended up voting for the titles that I admire from this group.

I have the same thing, nothing on the list (bar Sorcery) was a childhood classic so I don't have the same affection for them as I do for the old ones.

I picked all of the Jon Green books except Bloodbones as it is slightly unfair compared to the others.
I also picked Khare and Crown as they seem more intricate and the claustrophobic environments seem to engender more colourful characters than the other two books. I do love the other two books as well though.

Bit of a criticism but why Caverns, House Of Hell, even Eye Of The Dragon, but not the shorter version of Warlock Of Firetop Mountain? It doesn't matter, none of them will make it through to the next round.
Or will they * Treguard-esque look at the camera while saying words slowly and dramatically and opening eyes * ?

Bit of a criticism but why Caverns, House Of Hell, even Eye Of The Dragon, but not the shorter version of Warlock Of Firetop Mountain? By 'shorter version' do you mean the Warlock magazine edit (which still has 400 sections, but moves certain items and changes the winning key combination), the Wizard Books 'Sample Adventure' (which goes as far as the south bank of the river), or some other variant? IMO, the magazine variant of CotSW is the most dispensible, as it has no meaningful differences from roughly the first half of the full gamebook, whereas the magazine versions of TWoFM and HoH have winning paths that include encounters which are off-limits for a successful attempt at the full book. The shorter EotD also offers more of a different experience, but that includes rules that are worse than the FF system in almost every way.

I would have voted for The Warlock of Firetop Mountain (Warlock version) - a new challenge from a familiar setting.

I had in mind the Warlock magazine edit which I have not read but sounds interesting. I've read some of the sample adventures and they are too short to talk about. I don't know of other variants but as a fan of Warlock I would have sympathised with including Warlock magazine's edit, like Peter, but OTOH it seems unfair to choose to include specific versions of an adventure partly because they are big and iconic - next we would include the Sorcery! App or Warlock on Steam (yes, they're both distinctly different as video games, but that's the direction we'd be headed in).

Surprised to see The Seven Serpents finishing as the top voted Sorcery! book, and by a reasonable margin as well - I always thought Khare and Crown were generally regarded as the best two. Goes to show what I know. Pleased to see JG's books did so well too - although I voted for them, I didn't think most of them would stand a chance up against Sorcery! but three of them going through is pretty good going I think.
