Now it is to see where they go on the podium. Just choose two!!!

One by each of the two FF founders and one by Stephen Hand - not entirely surprising. The closeness isn't surprising either.

* Checks results * * Sees second place is tied * * Almost dies from tension *
A one-off vote between the two?
Extra time? PMs with number rankings?

Should I lock the poll now there is no tie?

39-40 people voted in most of the recent polls. Only 34 in 'last 5', but you closed that one after less than 2 days, so half a dozen or so not-quite-so-regular forum members might not have had the opportunity. The three or four who've voted in most polls but not yet this one should have their chance here, too.

A week has now elapsed since this poll was opened so do we think it should now close? If so, it looks as though House of Hell has sneaked through again to make it to the last 2! It's a really atmospheric and memorable book but a little surprised a non Titan based gamebook looks to have made it to the top 2.

I have to agree wi Trialmaster above, mainly on the basis I don't think there has been any new votes for 2 days. I also say it would be unfair to make one poll last much longer than most others. House Of Hell's second place is rather unexpected as well as close, but it was written by one of the founders, and I can see why its simplicity, Earth setting and tense atmosphere could resonate with kids. Suggest in the vote for top place, we can't see the votes until the poll is expired, and King Gillibran sets an automatic deadline (perhaps in the range of 8-13 days) so we won't have debating society discussions about whether there will be a tie or a close run. If there is a tie, there should be no further voting but they are the joint winners (in my view).

I'm not sure that 'simplicity' is something I'd associate with House of Hell - if anything it would be the reverse for me, with more mature themes, sophisticated use of language and more ambitious and complex design than any of the other books in the series up to that point.
