I was just browsing a music site and when a very familiar art style popped up on one of the album covers: Pretty unmistakable. Amazing to think one of the artists that made FF gamebook covers is now doing the covers for Death Metal bands. Ian's style is quite dark and unique, I don't think it's out of place in either context. Certainly the most unique of FF artists, not sure how many others I would recognise as easily in another context. The band is Ulthar for reference, and Ian has done all their album covers.

What an image!!
Amazing artist. As you say, definitely one of the more distinctive of the set of FF artists (though of course, many others have their unique aspects too). In my view an excellent pick for Phantoms, and in particular the covers of House of Hell and Spectral Stalkers.

I never liked the Phantoms of Fear illustrations, I don't know why. Ian's covers are great, and that album cover is awesome. Perhaps I'll check out the band later. Ian's style is very distinctive; organic and disconcerting in a way nobody else's art is. But I think it only works in colour.
EDIT I take that back. I've just been browsing Ian's work and many of the black and white illustrations are fantastic, too. I don't know why the interior illustrations of Phantoms never worked for me.

But I think it only works in colour. Oddly I prefer his black and white stuff (or at least minimal colour like in this album cover). I think sometimes his full colour pieces work, but other times they seem a bit too garish (the Phantoms of Fear cover for instance). For fans, I can recommend the very nice Art of Ian Miller hardback.

Edited the thread title so people don't assume that Ian has passed on.

Ian Miller's art is easily my favourite in FF.
I've also spotted his work in Magic: The Gathering.
