Wrong. Clue: all the incorrect guesses are equally close to the right answer, but in different ways. Nice idea, but wrong. Though in its own way, Starship Traveller is just as close to the right book as Legend, Forest and City. Aha! Is it The Warlock of Firetop Mountain? The first three guesses were by IL, Starship is by SJ, TWoFM is by both.

It is TWoFM. The earrings are in the Ghoul's pocket.
As regards 'closeness':
Warlock was the first FF book. Forest was the third.
Warlock was the first FF book with Steve Jackson as an author. Starship was the third.
Warlock was the first FF book with Ian Livingstone as an author. City was the third.
Warlock was the first FF book to feature Zagor. Legend was the third.

A little more complicated than my idea then - I'd never have worked all that out (I did wonder how IL could have written those books in three different ways). Anyway... does anyone have any Catstink? I'm fresh out.

the difficult thing with that one is no one really notes down exactly what the treasure is when it is worth something and is not unique. like in Legend of Zagor, if i took some expensive gold-spun drapery worth 4GP, i'd either just add it to my Gold total or in my Treasures (worth) section, but never by it's full name as it is unnecessary. the same applies with food too. those earrings could literally have been in ANY book without being out of place. if you don't know the answer, it can't be worked out. it will always take up to 60+ guesses to solve it - which isn't so fun.

I guess it depends how your memory works. I remembered the earrings as earrings even before deciding to list them here. The silvered crystal birds that deadshadowrunner asked about earlier were the same sort of thing - in game terms, significant only for their monetary value - but I got them straight off. Oh, and a value in Gold Pieces should exclude a lot of the non-fantasy books, not that that stopped people from trying a couple here. Mudworm, is Catstink from Bloodbones?

No. At least, that's not the source I know of.

i thought it was Sword of the Samurai. Don't take my lack of a question mark as certainty on my part! There's definitely a helmet in IotLK, whether it's that one or not, I can't recall and it feels like cheating to go and dig the book out to check. So you could be right.

It is Sword of the Samurai.
I only know that because I thought it was Master of Chaos (you know, the snakey helmet the Moonsword guy was wearing), googled it to check and stumbled on the right answer by mistake.

Well, I could get you a heap of those from the Fabled Lands books. But in FF - wasn't the one in Crypt of the Sorcerer made from ebony?

Bloodbeast is right. It's one of the items in the same place as the Wulfen Sword.
