Since mash-ups are all the rage in superhero films, multiverse films, and other things, what FF mash-ups could you imagine? And who would write them?*
Sauron's Return, by Stephen Hand - You play a Hobbit in a free-form but timed Tolkien-universe, who with the assistance of Gandalf and the more down-to earth Yaztromo can try to stop Sauron. Narnia's Game, by Steve Jackson - Sucked into Narnia, you have to help Aslan for his second battle against The White Queen. But traitor Edmund could easily provide a grisly death. Star Wars X, by Jonathan Green - Visit planet after planet in an effort to gain enough codewords, clues and equipment to face off Darth Vader.

How about a version of Star Trek: Voyager with a ship's crew more unengaging than even the dullest of the series regulars, which doesn't take the time to properly engage with any of the societies encountered, falls significantly short of the usual gamebook length even with a tedious maze added to pad out the section count, and gets published over a decade before the series is broadcast?

Well Star Trek: Voyager would risk the life of 1000+ crew not to mention the ship to save the Ship's Hologram\some tenth-rate fanfic Hologram program. So I guess +2 points for not doing that and being ahead of its time, and -10,000 points overall.

Off he top of my head...
Terminator - maybe you play as someone who has to fight their way through hordes of robots, travel back in time and save Sarah or John Connor?
Robocop - play as robocop, blowing away street scum before a final confrontation with ed209
Marvel or DC playing as franchise characters
Thinking literature, HG Wells' classics Isand of Doctor Moreau (escape the island) and The Time Machine (defeat the morlocks) would also work

Yes think an HG Wells based book by Jonathan Green would be good.
I would choose War of the Worlds though as it's the most mainstream and you could make a really good CYOA from it I think.

This Edward Packard CYOA has some Wellsian themes gamebooks.org/Item/344/Show. Like most CYOA I get the feeling it's fun to read but isn't entirely brilliant.

I wonder if anyone ever approached JK Rowling about doing an interactive Hogwarts book. Would have liked someone to do one with Douglas Adams as well, but the Infocom adventure was far more technically ambitious and DNA was a gadget freak.
A proper Holy Grail gamebook would be pretty mondo. With things like the Questing Beast and the Dolorous Spear as sidequests.

I believe Douglas Adams is quite well-known among his enthusiasts for his adventure games Bureaucracy and Starship Titanic. But I can't imagine a Harry Potter gamebook taking off; her series is predictable and for 6-year-olds. I believe both have Net adventures, though. Then again if they can make gamebooks based around Mario and Sonic who knows?
