I'm so dumb I can't even work out where to download it?

I have just realised that the dragon sword is behind a skill 10 stamina 8 wraith and a shield that gives +1 attack strength is behind a skill 10 stamina 6 opponent. That is one problem with the book - that these items are designed to help with difficult combats and they are behind two difficult combats.
Very true, but compared to Livingstone's normal standards, a 10/8 and especially a 10/6 actually aren't that bad (but I get where you're coming from).

I'm starting to wonder if IL actually wrote this book himself. After all, he's had five others ghostwritten (one FF, and four novels, and those are just the ones that he's admitted to), because, although the book is still linear as ever, it's just not as stupidly difficult or as unfair.

Whoops. I guess I forgot, but I was getting worried that something had happened to my answers.

Yes please! I'm suffering from withdrawal symptoms here.

I love both these covers but I'm not to sure about the position of the giant's legs?

And I also look a bit like Michael Myers (with the mask on of course).

This is a real shame. Has it happened to everyone? I still haven't played any of the latest ones.

I'd start easy with Forest of Doom and Keep of the Lich Lord.

Secrets of Salamonis suggested changes! 500 entries is a lot more iconic and artistically pleasing. I have to say this is a very idiosyncratic criticism... 480 is a multiple of 40...12x40 instead of the usual 10x40... Seems aesthetically pleasing to me. Now, 483 or 501 would be just wrong. There's a Doctor Who book with 2001 references. Now that's a bit strange.

I ordered through book depository because prices were AUD$10 cheaper than anywhere else I've seen them listed. They are probably a week and a half away from arriving though
No postage costs either!

That's what put me off about this one - more instant deaths than a fight with King Kong.

Really good article about Keith Martin/Carl Sargent, and a very great shame about what happened to him. The Keep of the Lich-Lord article is enjoyable and obviously a lot more light-hearted.

They look awful compared to Puffins, even Wizards. If your old books are falling apart, by those old books again.

Strictly speaking, combat in FF books has Skill and Stamina present on the page.

9. Name an enemy with 2 weapons. [Need an enemy’s name, reference number proving it has 2 weapons and book where the enemy comes from]. Wrong [has more than 2 weapons] Vastariner:Idol, Trial of Champions, 311 Question doesn't limit the answer to 2 weapons and only 2 weapons. If a creature has 6 weapons, it has to have 2... It's like a parking sign that says "limited to 1 hour". Doesn't mean you get a charge if you drive off 59 minutes later.
I would argue that because I said '2 weapons' and not '2 or more weapons', then your answer was sadly wrong.

Wrong [Not in a fight] Vastariner: the Slave Master? Slaves of the Abyss, 260. Again, I would argue that if you're throwing your sword at someone, and they mince you up for life, then that's a fight...
I looked at the reference and there were no stats present. Therefore, according to FF's own rules about 'not eating in a fight' (or whatever), I deemed that it was not a fight.

Wrong [This does not take place in a fight]
Vastariner: Any member of the Zera Gross gang, Rings of Kether, 304 (lose 2 St permanently). It does. Just a very one-sided one.
I looked at the reference you gave me and there were no stats present. Therefore, according to FF's own rules about 'not eating in a fight' (or whatever), I deemed that it was not a fight.

8. Name an item you could gain that could kill you, regardless of your stamina score [Need an item name, reference with proof that the item could kill you and a book name]. [...] Hallucination: The right eye of the statue, at reference 34 of Deathtrap Dungeon [...] Wrong [You don't ‘gain’ the box, you just open it] Vastariner: Life-draining box, Trial of Champions, 224 Do you 'gain' the right eye of the statue? The text describes it shattering to release poison gas when you try to prise it out of its setting. Trial section 46 gives you the option to 'pick up the silver box', which is already open when you find the dead goblin holding it. That seems more like 'gain' than 'just open' to me.
Quite right about Trial, but the section that Vastariner gave me (224) didn't make that clear. I have amended his score.
As for Deathtrap, well, it's debatable I suppose, I mean you were certainly trying to gain it and I suppose, in some senses you did ... right in the face?

You're right, apart from (and maybe a few others if you look hard enough, because I swear the werefox DID appear somewhere):
Werewolf The Warlock of Firetop Mountain Malcom Barter The Forest of Doom OOTP p. 118 Werepanther Marc Gascoigne Battleblade Warrior Mike Tenebrae Return to the Pit RTTP p. 210
As for the others, probably not so much, but well done for finding the Were Warg.

10. Name a creature that requires a silver weapon to kill. [Need name of creature, reference proving it requires a silver weapon to kill and the name of the book it appears in].
thealmightymudworm: Zanbar Bone in City of Thieves - silver arrow (329) Gabe Fandango: Countess Isolde (Howl of the Werewolf section 141) Peter: Wight - The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, ref 211. Sylas: Spirit Stalker, ref 189, City of Thieves Kieran: Ghost - Siege of Sardath 111 Greenspine: Vampire, 137-231 (and contrast 137-382), Spectral Stalkers. Vastariner: Vampire, Return to Firetop Mountain, 254. Hallucination: The VAMPIRE at reference 254 of Return to Firetop Mountain Peter’s Wife: The Conjurer - Spectral Stalkers, ref 137: (He is a vampire)
What about the poor Death Wraith? Messenger of Death (maybe)? Wraith? Lich? Nightshade? Shrouded Wanderer? Silent Death? Spectral Steed? And of course the dreaded Sir not Appearing in this List? I must say I'm quite surprised at the pile-up at the various vampires (which I'm sure in legend mention nothing about silver). I'm also quite surprised that werewolves in FF don't need silver weapons (whereas legends suggest they do).
Scores after Question 10
Sylas: 14 Gabe Fandango: 17 thealmightymudworm: 18 Hallucination: 20 Peter: 21 Greenspine: 23 Peter’s Wife: 25 Kieran: 28 Vastariner: 41
Oh well it was a nice quiz and one I was able to get all the answers in this time to a couple of hours, which beats my last record of the whole day. I guess you get used to these things. Congratulations to Sylas for winning and for holding of a stiff challenge from Gabe and mudworm who, together, hold a formidable top-3.
Thanks to all for playing! I've learnt a bit more from this quiz and I have you lot to thank.
