9. Name an enemy with 2 weapons. [Need an enemy’s name, reference number proving it has 2 weapons and book where the enemy comes from].
Gabe Fandango: Ninja (Deathtrap Dungeon section 312 - razor disc & sword) Peter: Fire Demon - The Forest of Doom, ref 107 (a fire sword and a whip). Peter’s Wife: Mercenary Champion - Knights of Doom, 53: He has a sword and long knife. Sylas: Death Head, ref 277, Return to Firetop Mountain Kieran: Temple Guardian - Keep of the Lich-Lord 334 Greenspine: Southerner, 61, Trial of Champions. The studded glove is as a weapon as is the dagger. Hallucination: GRETTA MORG at 35 (or 60 or 146) of Assassins of Allansia “pulls out two swords" thealmightymudworm: Kandagor in The Keep of the Lich Lord (ballista 285 and he fights you with a sword 366) Wrong [has more than 2 weapons] Vastariner:Idol, Trial of Champions, 311
There's a actually quite a few creatures with 2 weapons, but the one that inspired this question was none other than the Fire Demon. So a bonus of a million points goes to Peter (once I've received your cheque for a Large Sum of Money). Some people tried to point out that animals could be considered to have natural weapons, but I'm afraid I had to shut that down because it became a bit too complicated (a man has 2 fists, so he has 2 weapons? Right? Wrong. A man can kick, punch, headbutt and bite and so on).
Sorry, but rules is rules. After all I could use a notepad as a 'weapon' (not a very good one), but a notepad is not a weapon per say. And so it goes on...
Scores after Question 9
Sylas: 13 Gabe Fandango: 16 Hallucination: 16 thealmightymudworm: 17 Peter: 20 Greenspine: 19 Peter’s Wife: 21 Kieran: 27 Vastariner: 37

8. Name an item you could gain that could kill you, regardless of your stamina score [Need an item name, reference with proof that the item could kill you and a book name].
Vastariner: Life-draining box, Trial of Champions, 224 Gabe Fandango: Green pendant (Phantoms of Fear section 128) Peter: An orangey-purple fruit - Space Assassin, described on ref 54, then on ref 388 Peter’s Wife: Black Crystal Orb - Knights of Doom, ref 232 Sylas: Merman’s Trident, ref 110, Demons of the Deep Kieran: Medallion - Deathmoor 352 and 400 Greenspine: The sword ‘Imperator’, Revenge of the Vampire. Gained 314, identified 53, kills 36. Hallucination: The right eye of the statue, at reference 34 of Deathtrap Dungeon thealmightymudworm: Sea-Hag's necklace in in Demons of the Deep 388/106 A bit more wide-ranging than I thought, this question, although I certainly knew there were a fair few items you could gain that could kill you, I honestly thought they'd be a couple of 'doubles'. I guess that may have happened if a few more people took part? Scores after Question 8 Sylas: 12 Gabe Fandango: 15 Hallucination: 15 thealmightymudworm: 16 Peter: 18 Greenspine: 18 Peter’s Wife: 20 Kieran: 26 Vastariner: 27
Oh well. The scores have changed but the leader board hasn't.

7. Name a Were Creature [Need creature name, reference with that creature and the name of the book it appears in].
Sylas: Wolf-Were, ref 487, Howl of the Werewolf Kieran: Black Werewolf - Howl of the Werewolf 124 Greenspine: Werebat, 52, Howl of the Werewolf Vastariner: Werewight, Keep of the Lich Lord, 42 Gabe Fandango: Werewight (Keep of the Lich Lord section 42). Hallucination: There’s a WERERAT at reference 260 of Return to Firetop Mountain Peter: Wererat - The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, ref 188 thealmightymudworm: Were-Cat, Spectral Stalkers 105 Peter’s Wife: Were-Cat - Spectral Stalkers, ref 236.
What about weretiger, werebear, werefox, werepanther, wereshark, werehunter (not too sure about that one), werebeast, oh, and what about a werewolf? I guess for that last one people were trying the old 'so obvious that everyone will go for it so I won't.' In actual fact, they should have tried the even older 'so obvious that no one will go for it whatsoever, therefore I should.' Can anyone think of anymore Were-creatures of the top of their heads?
Funny how that wererat turned up twice in two separate books no less. I'm assuming its not the same one?
Scores after Question 7
Sylas: 11 Gabe Fandango: 14 Hallucination: 14 thealmightymudworm: 15 Peter: 17 Greenspine: 17 Peter’s Wife: 19 Kieran: 25 Vastariner: 26

Should probably keep quiet but I think my score should actually be 21 given I couldn't find an answer for Q2.
Thanks. I thought I'd continue my tradition of 'deliberately' giving someone the wrong score for a few rounds until they'd spotted it.

6. Name a creature that could disarm you during a fight [Need creature name, reference with proof that it can disarm you in a fight and a book name]. Peter: Balthus Dire - The Citadel of Chaos, ref 155 Peter’s Wife: Ogre Overseer - Knights of Doom, ref 124 Sylas: Fourth Shadow Warrior, ref 183 Greenspine: Clawbeast, 30-241, The Citadel of Chaos Hallucination: The HOBGOBLIN FANATIC in Battleblade Warrior at reference 10 thealmightymudworm: Monk of Scarlet Mantis in Talisman of Death (288/366) Kieran: Orc - Deathtrap Dungeon 91. Gabe Fandango: Orc (Deathtrap Dungeon section 91) Wrong [Not in a fight] Vastariner: the Slave Master? Slaves of the Abyss, 260. Another difficult question where people rose to the challenge, even if some of them stretch the definition of 'during a fight' but one in particular stretches it to breaking point. Anyway, I'm sure we can find more 'disarming' moments that this (maybe...)? The scores after Question 6 Sylas: 10 Gabe Fandango: 12 Hallucination: 12 thealmightymudworm: 13 Peter: 15 Greenspine: 16 Peter’s Wife: 17 Vastariner: 24 Kieran: 24

5. Identify a reference where you lose skill stamina and luck [Need reference with proof of skill stamina and luck reduction and a book name]. Gabe Fandango: Night of the Necromancer section 4. Peter: The Citadel of Chaos, ref 182 Peter’s Wife: Knights of Doom, ref 84: Sylas: ref 45, Revenge of the Vampire Kieran: Demons of the Deep 266 (if you roll badly!) Vastariner: Sword of the Samurai, 63 Hallucination: At 142 of Assassins of Allansia thealmightymudworm: Sword of the Samurai (27). Greenspine: 27, Sword of the Samurai The scores after Question 5Sylas: 9 Gabe Fandango: 10
thealmightymudworm: 11 Hallucination: 11 Peter: 14 Vastariner: 14
Greenspine: 15 Peter’s Wife: 16 Kieran: 22
A bit of bad luck for Greenspine and mightymudworm to have picked not only the same book, but also the same reference. Lucky Vastariner obviously had a few four-leaf clovers to have picked the same book again, but a different reference this time. A clever bit from Kieran here as he uses the pile-up from Q4 in a very nice way. I'm sure there are still a few more references lurking about out there somewhere, with -skill, -stamina and -luck.

4. Name a book where it's possible to increase the initial levels of skill, stamina and luck [Need reference(s) with proof of initial skill stamina and luck increase and a book name]. Sylas: Legend of Zagor, refs 294 and 270 Vastariner: Sword of the Samurai, 152 Hallucination: reference 266 in Demons of the Deep thealmightymudworm: Demons of the Deep assuming you start with less than perfect stats (266) Gabe Fandango: Demons of the Deep section 266 Peter: Demons of the Deep, ref 266 Kieran: Demons of the Deep 266 Greenspine: 266, Demons of the Deep. Wrong [Only your initial luck is increased here] Peter’s Wife: The Keep of the Lich Lord, ref 316 The scores after Question 4Sylas: 8 thealmightymudworm: 9 Gabe Fandango: 9 Hallucination: 10 Peter: 13 Greenspine: 13 Vastariner: 13 Peter’s Wife: 15 Kieran: 21
The biggest pile-up in all of this game's history! I wonder how many people noticed that I asked for 'reference(s)' and not just 'reference'? Or are there just literally almost no instances where this has ever happened? A wise soul pointed out the following to me, for instance: NIGHT DRAGON (Skill on reference 187; Stamina on reference 141; Luck on reference 321. This round really sorted the men from the boys (and the women from the girls). Still, assuming there really are no more books where you can increase all 3 initial stats (and I'm sure I found a few more, then this question was obviously too narrow, which is just as bad as too wide, I suppose, if not worse).

3. Name a creature that could damage any of your initial stats during a fight [Need creature name, reference with proof of an initial stat reduction in a fight and book name]. thealmightymudworm:Wild man in Seas of Blood (385/37) Gabe Fandango: Outlaw (Freeway Fighter section 178 Peter’s Wife: Amentut - Curse of the Mummy, ref 359 Hallucination: Amentut - Curse of the Mummy, ref 359 Sylas: Chaos Champion - Legend of Zagor, ref 124. Greenspine: Chaos Champion - Legend of Zagor, ref 124. Peter: Chaos Champion - Legend of Zagor, ref 124. Kieran: Chaos Champion - Legend of Zagor, ref 124.
Wrong [This does not take place in a fight] Vastariner: Any member of the Zera Gross gang, Rings of Kether, 304 (lose 2 St permanently). Scores after Q3thealmightymudworm: 3 Gabe Fandango: 3 Hallucination: 4 Peter’s Wife: 5 Peter: 7 Sylas: 7 Greenspine: 7 Vastariner: 12 Kieran: 15
What a pile-up on Q3 (I wonder if they'll be any more of those...)! Are there really so few enemies that can damage your initial stats in the whole off FF? I'm sure I came up with a few more when I researched this (must remember to, you know, write that stuff down in future). By the way, does 'decrease your skill/luck/stamina permanently', really mean an initial reduction? At first I said no, but the more I thought about it, the more I realised I was almost certainly wrong.

2. Name a creature that can damage your luck score in combat (this does not include you testing your own luck before, during or after the fight) [Need creature name, reference with proof of luck reduction in a fight and book name]. Gabe Fandango: Awkmute (Seas of Blood section 63). Kieran: No idea! Vastariner: Pyramidal Cell, Night Dragon 117 Hallucination: The SEA HAG at reference 254 of Demons of the Deep. thealmightymudworm: Dai-Oni in Sword of the Samurai (292/102) Peter: Ramatu - Bloodbones, ref 139 Peter’s Wife: Ramatu - Bloodbones, ref 139 Sylas: Nightmare Master, ref 172, Legend of the Shadow Warriors Greenspine: Nightmare Master, 172, Legend of the Shadow Warriors Scores after Question 2Vastariner: 2 Hallucination: 2 thealmightymudworm: 2 Gabe Fandango: 2 Peter: 3 Peter’s Wife: 3 Sylas: 3 Greenspine: 3 Kieran: 11
At least one person mentioned the neglected dai-oni (no more on him later, although he was the inspiration for Q1 and Q2). Not an easy question this one although I'm sure there are still a few other monsters lurking around that could have damaged your luck? Of course, I've forgotten them all now...

1. Name a creature that could damage your skill score in a fight [need creature name, reference with proof of skill reduction in a fight and the name of the book]. Gabe Fandango: Awkmute (Seas of Blood section 63). Peter: Elf-Ghost - Tower of Destruction, ref 277 Peter’s Wife: Morgwyn - Knights of Doom, ref 29 Sylas: Sin-Eater, ref 327, Night of the Necromancer Kieran: Amentut - Curse of the Mummy 359 Greenspine: Wraith, 200-290, Vault of the Vampire Vastariner: Baddu-beetle, Seven Serpents, 216 Hallucination: The HUNCHBACK at reference 205 of Return to Firetop Mountain thealmightymudworm: (Giant) Raven in Vault of the Vampire (78/360)
Not one mention for the poor, defenceless Night Horror? The adorable Dai-Oni (more from him later though)? Oh well, seems this was a very open question and little chance of any repeat answers, although my heart did skip a beat when I read Awkmute and Amentut and, just for a second, assumed them to be the same name.
Scores after Question 1Gabe Fandango: 1 Peter: 1 Peter’s Wife: 1 Sylas: 1 Kieran: 1 Greenspine: 1 Vastariner: 1 Hallucination: 1 thealmightymudworm: 1

I wrote this little parody for a part of something I'm working on; in response to Demonspawn, Fire*Wolf, and the lack of choices (especially at the start):
He calls himself Wolf*Fire and he Wants to fight you but the rules he insists on following are so complex and nonsensical that he can’t even understand them himself. He goes on and on and won’t let you get a word in edgeways. You may ignore him and leave or kill him and leave anyway. If you decide to stay you must Test your Patience. If you fail then he has bored you to death.

Just found this old deleted reference which I don't think I've ever posted before:
Just as you are stepping over to the window a figure you hadn't noticed before walks out from the shadows nearby. From the neck down she looks like a young well-dressed woman, at least as far as you can tell in this gloom. From above the neck she is an atrocity. Her entire face has been cut off, right down to the muscle and bone. Yet, as far as you can tell she still smiles at you, sending trickles of blood pouring down her chin onto her dress. Taking a step back so as to not be too close to this thing, she speaks to you.
'Before all this,' she points at her ruined face, 'I used to be quite beautiful, but then I glimpsed what lies waiting beyond it and realised my own imperfections.' She brings out a concealed dagger, 'So I did this to myself.' The dagger is still dripping blood.
With tears in your eyes you ask her what could make her do such a thing to herself.
She smiles again as more blood drips from her face and falls onto her shoes. Indeed, for the first time you realise just how bloody she is. "The Gate," she says simply. Then she raises the dagger and slashes at her neck before you can stop her. Her body slumps to the ground at peace at last.
What lies waiting beyond? She's actually looked through the Gate itself?
