Dead of Night is my favourite book by any of the secondary authors!

Your passion for gamebooks is admirable, Vag. I think it's his passion for Ian Livingstone.

Blood of the Zombies is broken and unwinnable when playing by the rules. However, the mobile app version has a "medium" difficulty setting where the player character starts with 2 Dice + 40 stamina and there are more med kits than in the printed version. In print, that could actually be winnable, though difficult. Do you mean that even the 'revised' book version is impossible?

We must do all we can to curb freedom of speech, just like the filth in the government.

I just think that people back then were a bit less stupid and much less brainwashed. Also, the likes of Thatcher and Major had power back then and they both came from working class backgrounds. Unlike the Eton lot we have nowadays.

So, about that font size... Is it a sign of insecurity on your behalf? A mine is bigger than yours syndrome? I couldn't agree more.

I always thought that Dead of Night had a bad front cover and yet I loved that book and I loved its internal illustrations. Also, I think that the 'One big bad person' that many of the covers feature is getting stale. What about the House of Hell cover with all of its details, or the Spectral Stalkers with theirs, or even Phantoms of Fear because at least it's a bit different.

An old friend of mine said that too, but whether he meant 'without cheating' or not I may never know. Still, I'm sure someone really has completed it legitimately.

but you get a proper sense of accomplishment if you play by the rules I agree, which is why books like Crypt of the Sorcerer or the truly awful Chasms of Malice are such a kick in the teeth.

I wonder how many people, including Vagsancho, have completed this book without cheating? I mean the story's not bad but when it's married to an unwinnable game ... what's the point?

I remember putting many hours into this as a youth, despite the difficulty and the silliness of the random instant deaths that killed you regardless of stats. I persevered though, right to the end. I was so disgusted about Razaak's stats (let alone his ridiculous special ability) that I recall searching the book in anger assuming that I'd missed a hidden option (no Internet back then). After scouring all 400 references I realised that it was by design. I was so angry and disgusted that I threw the book to one side and never went back.

The Pit Fiend always struck me as odd. It's described as 'Ten meters tall' which means it's even bigger than an adult T-Rex. So then why are its stats lower?

I remember this book. Wasn't there a skill 16 enemy at one point (which luckily you didn't have to fight)?
Yet what's the point of an enemy that no one will ever beat? What's more, I think I read the para where you killed it (just to find out) and it just said you "killed the demon, good bye". Not even a luck point!

If I roll up a skill 7 character I'll deliberately send him down any paths I've never explored safe in the knowledge that I won't care what happens to the pathetic wimp.

He should be armed with a nuke and should kill you on the first reference. The other 399 should just go on about how 'bad' he is.

A Deathtrap Dungeon III is always something fantastic and worthy of human yearning, a trip to the interior of Port Blacksand is something magical, but the supreme magic does not lie in the trials or in places, but in the souls, and that is why the most magical of all it would be the return of the supreme sorcerer with the supreme power that already wants nothing of this life - Razaak - the most powerful ultimate enemy. Yeah and hopefully this time, the book won't be so shit.

Very interesting post with a very amusing Freudian slip by Ian Livingstone on Facebook: m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10156862931525316&id=632880315"I asked on Twitter yesterday if, and it is a big if, I were to write a sequel to one of my early Fighting Fantasy Boobs, which one should it be? I got a great and encouraging response and now I wonder if my Facebook friends agree? Please let me know which one you'd vote for and I'll post the comparative votes." Well as for Ian's best Fighting Fantasy Boobs: I can honestly say that Blood of the Zombies had the nicest breasts.

Pity it wasn't used more often. I mean it was in Star Strider (I think?) and I'm pretty sure that was not the best book?

I'm pretty sure that you only need a Fear of 8 to complete it if you do everything right. So it's much more fair than an Ian Livingstone book would be.

Are you interested in anything related to amateur works? I've just finished a sequel to House of Hell and I could do with a bit of publicity.

Why? A few FF books had more than that. It's strange to dismiss it simply because of its paragraph count. You might like it!
PS Or you might hate it.
