Missed the poll but for me the whole fun is exploring and mapping out the solution. Having a solution that’s hard to find but includes zero risk sounds amazing. I’m tinkering with a book myself where you can choose to play as a thief and there are ways to try and “ghost” through.
I find the combat in FF excruciatingly boring as a 50 year old. I’d rather roll a single time on a table and get a total damage result for both sides tbh.

For me it depends entirely on the implementation. Starship Traveller is not lame because it's zero-risk, it's because the true path has you skipping all the encounters. Contrast it with the cyclops fight at the end of Seas of Blood. That is also zero risk but easily the best thing in the whole book.
