Comparing those two is like comparing Star Wars The Phantom Menace with Star Wars The Force Awakens. Which is which in this analogy? I think I would happily go to my grave declaring The Phantom Menace is the better of the two. Re Space Assassin, it's fun enough but leaves no real impression beyond it's solid equipment and combat rules which should really have been reused in other sci-fi books in the series. I was wondering that too as I much prefer The Phantom Menace. Not saying it's great by any means but at least it wasn't a straight up re-hash of A New Hope like The Force Awakens was. I wonder if George Lucas feels vindicated these days. He took a lot of heat over the prequel trilogy, but then along comes Disney with all their vast resources....and does far worse!

I'm probably in the minority for having a high opinion of the Disney films etc. - even Solo - less so for disliking the prequels. Of course both live in the long shadow of the original and the first two sequels. The next geek argument will be whether Return Of The Jedi was as phenomenal as Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back.

I really enjoyed Rogue One at least.

I'm probably in the minority for having a high opinion of the Disney films etc. - even Solo Oddly, I thought Solo was one of the better ones. Bar Rise of Skywalker, I liked the Disney films well enough but I never really felt they had any story of their own to tell. The prequels had their flaws, but they were a story George Lucas had had in the back of his mind for decades and they took some risks.

I think I would order them: Empire Strikes Back A New Hope Return of the Jedi Phantom Menace Rogue One Revenge of the Sith Attack of the Clones The Force Awakens Solo The Last Jedi Rise of Skywalker
I found The Force Awakens fun and liked Finn and Rey but the whole star killer base was just a boring overblown rehash of the Death Star. Poor Finn got nothing to do in the next two and it was obvious there was no story outline for the trilogy.

it was obvious there was no story outline for the trilogy. Astounding, isn't it? Imagine spending all that money for a beloved franchise and then mishandling it so badly.

What about the Disney+ Star Wars series such as the Mandalorian? I don't have Disney+ but it's gotten good reviews, so am I missing out or is it overrated? By the way they will NEVER release it on separate streaming\physical copy. People have been giving so-called release dates of when they will for years and they've always come and gone with nothing happening.

Loved the Mandalorian, especially season 1. Boba Fett was … OK. Slightly dull maybe. Obi Wan is fun.

Interesting range of opinions.
I enjoyed Rogue One more than any of the other recent movies. I found it easy to get caught up in the story. Nice tie-in with the saga, too.
After being strongly encouraged by several people to watch The Mandalorian, I have seen a few episodes and I thought it was ... OK. Not dazzling, not rubbish.

I watched the first season and it had its moments but.. eh. My main beef with it is the writing too often relies on previously smart villains acting like idiots so the good guys can beat them.

Characters who are meant to be clever but who act in an unconvincingly stupid way are the things most likely to get me shouting at a film. Spaceship crews who arrive on an unknown planet and wander about without helmets and sucking up poison spores and then ignoring quarantine. Leaders [villains and heroes] who are so stupid that they would never have reached that level of command. It's even worse if they are like what you said - hitherto competent... but then they turn into idiots because the plot needs them to.

This was one of my issues with Lost In Space reboot (I mean the series, but the film wasn't a good one, either). While the original could be flawed in terms of logic and budget, it was great in terms of telling good stories. I had to stop watching the reboot after just a few episodes because the heroes were creating problems by pointlessly checking out dangerous new places alone, not bothering with safety equipment, trusting people they'd just met etc.
