Interesting that Crown of Kings is being released at the same time as Seven Serpents. I hope that doesn't indicate a rush to complete Sorcery before FF is dropped by Scholastic. That's one possibility, and if true at least it shows that Scholastic feel a sense of duty to their readership to finish the Sorcery series. The other possibility (dare I say it...) is because the upcoming book by Steve Jackson is Sorcery 5. That is what I am choosing to believe anyhow.

In fact Dave Morris and Jamie Thomson will be releasing at least one gamebook later on this year as part of their Vulcanverse project, so keep an eye out for them. I noticed the Vulcanverse books were released last month if anyone wasnt yet aware. One by Dave Morris and one by Jamie Thomson. I dont have them yet but they look like quite weighty tomes (the Morris one in particular) if the prices are any indication. I sure hope they find time to finish the Fabled Lands series at some point if they have time for more gamebooks. I wonder if they get asked that a lot.

Anyone else catch Ian Livingstone on this week's episode of The Apprentice? I thought he did a really good job performing his role of looking suitably scornful throughout two awful pitches for video games, and then asking some twats why they had put penguins in the Arctic and why they had only used one C in the title of their game 'Artic Saviour'.

Yes, he definitely got the balance between politeness and soul-destroying scorn very nicely. Although of the two games, I thought Artic Saviour looked the more fun.

It could have been the best game in the world but I'd never want to play it after being hectored and lectured by a bunch of ignorant egotistical muppets... Ians withering take down was as good as those Karren, Claude, Nick or Margaret have delivered in the boardroom.

why they had only used one C in the title of their game 'Artic Saviour'. Working title for Freeway Fighter? Ha, excellent. In a post apocalyptic wasteland, YOU must deliver the precious cargo of quilted toilet rolls and Taste the Difference cauliflower cheeses in your weaponised articulated lorry to the world's last remaining Sainsburys. And agree with the Count above...if there's a vacancy for one of the boardroom assistants in a future series I think Ian put in a good audition!

Well done finding this, Kieran. So now we have the the official titles, release date and brief plot outlines. In those outlines it's clear what the mission is going to be in Ian Livingstone's book, but maybe less so in Steve Jackson's.

Well done finding this, Kieran. Can't take any credit there - it was posted on Facebook. Steve's book sounds like it might have an unusual design - a bunch of mini quests perhaps?

I agree Steve's book sounds like it might be a touch sandbox (like the other Steve Jackson). I'm glad Steve is going with a brand new FF instead of Sorcery! 5, which has already been expanded in the successful app. I'm holding my breath, as well, about whether Steve will drop the ball the way Livingstone's 2000s and 2010s gamebooks did - and whether Livingstone will have written a good book or another bad one.

Keep an eye out for who the illustrator is to be for either of the books. Who would people like to see doing them?

If it's going to be one of the Scholastic artists, Robert Ball definitely gets my vote. I wouldn't be against Eva Eskelinen. If Vlado Krizan puts a bit of effort in, he might be OK. If he's in Sorcery 1 or Appointment with FEAR mode however... And of course, it would be nice to have any of the old faves back.

Yeah, that's a fair point. He can be decent at times so Scholastic really should put their hands in their pockets. It would also be great if they considered some of the Fantazine artists - Brett Schofield and Angela Salamaliki in particular are excellent.

I'm aware that this is a question along the lines of 'How long is a piece of string?' and different artists will have different rates. BUT Any idea how much it was costing to commission an artist to draw the 30-odd illustrations in the original FF books? What would each illustration be in terms of the artist's effort? A full day's work? More?

I second Malcolm Barter. His art is miles better than his Forest of Doom days. I'd also welcome a return from Stephen Player or Kev Crossley.

Those are cool titles.
I've read they were going to go with the title 'Magic Quest' instead of 'The Warlock of Firetop Mountain' for FF one. Thank goodness they went with the very brave second one instead of the very bland first one.

Secrets of Salamonis sounds like it could be forgiving and very non-linear, dk about Shadow of Giants. I do hope Jackson doesn't destroy my childhood by writing anything in the same low league as Livingstone - and I will forgive Livingstone if he writes a good gamebook, or even a half-good one. Bet he won't.

I am encouraged by the artists, I must say. First of all, Tazio Bettin. Have a look at his work online. www.deviantart.com/taziobettinAnd we can see Warhammer 40k and other GW stuff, and very well done it is. Plus he is interested in FF. Look at his goodreads profile. www.goodreads.com/author/show/4859566.Tazio_BettinFighting Fantasy front and centre. He has been reading and having a think about the books. Shall we forgive him for giving Black Vein Prophecy only one star? So it looks like he understands gamebooks. I wonder if he has been working closely with SJ on the illustrations (we know Steve J likes to coordinate the text with the images in his books)? If the Mike McCarthy is the one found here: www.artstation.com/widigantrippethen that means we've got another good artist for the other book. Does this hearten folks a bit?

Sorry to be pedantic but does anyone know if Steve's book is called Secrets of Salamonis or The Secrets of Salamonis? I've seen it described as both.

Waterstones and Amazon both reference SJ's upcoming gamebook as "Fighting Fantasy: The Secrets Of Salamonis", so I imagine the different descriptions leaving aside pedantry would be because one, that's a wordy, long, even clumsy title, and two, the title could be changed, especially just a small change, before publication.
