You may use Google, but you'll have to work out where to look.

So I'm guessing 10 would be Forest of Doom, or possibly The Shamutanti Hills; 8 could be the second one from City of Thieves. 4 looks like someone sitting in a chair, seen from behind - possibly Yaztromo in his tower (is this how you first approach him in the book?). And 2 could be something to do with the bucket in Deathtrap Dungeon.

Others are wrongly identified although you did mention one of the correct books.

Identified:
1 - Gates of death 2 - Deathtrap dungeon 5 - City of thieves 7 - Caverns of the snow witch 11 - Creature of havoc
As this has gone on for way longer than I expected, I am giving the answers to the remaining ones not yet identified. All you have to do is assign the correct book to the picture. Books featured - POP, DD, S1, S2, COC, IOLK

Here go my guesses:
3 is Island of the Lizard King 4 is Deathtrap Dungeon 6 could be Citadel of Chaos 8 could be anyone, maybe Port of Peril 9 could be Port of Peril as well (don't know, I'm only up to book 41) 10 is Island of the Lizard King 12 might be in Khare
That's my knowledge exhausted.

Well done. All these images can be found online with a bit of searching (which is part of the challenge).

Time to blow the dust off this thread and resume the saga of Sid. The portcullis rises, allowing you to enter a small room containing an absurdly narrow bookcase and a table laden with a complete run of FF books. The bookcase is only wide enough to fit two books onto each shelf, though the top three shelves each have just one book on, and the bottom shelf is completely empty. On the left-hand side of the top shelf is a copy of Talisman of Death, its spine marred by a library-style sticker bearing the number '2'. The book on the right-hand side of the second shelf is Deathtrap Dungeon. It too has been defaced with a label, on which is printed '5'. Space Assassin stands on the left-hand side of the third shelf, the sticker on it reading '8'. Turning your attention to the table of books, you see that there is also one label there, still on its backing paper, with the number '6' on it. Assuming you can bring yourself to stick the label onto a book, which book will you put it on, and on which side of the bottom shelf will you put it?

Do the books with even-numbered labels all go on the left-hand side?

Are there only four shelves?

Do the books with even-numbered labels all go on the left-hand side? The appropriate side is not determined by whether the number is even or odd. Are there only four shelves? Yes, just four.

I am wondering if it is words on the first line counting from left or counting from right maybe spelling out 8 words giving the answer.

I was thinking it was some numerical sequence with both the actual book number and the replaced one, maybe as fractions. But I got nowhere with that.

Interesting ideas, but wrong. Hint: What are there only four of? So far, at least...

Assassins Of Allansia on the right?
This is based mostly on a shared word between titles - Talisman Of Deathtrap Dungeon and Space Assassins Of Allansia...

Getting closer, but still some way to go yet. Remember: 1) Each shelf still has room for another book. 2) The numbers on the labels do mean something.

Good idea, but how does it link to the labels? Also, Deathmoor could have been used instead of Deathtrap Dungeon, and Armies of Death or The Gates of Death could have been used instead of Talisman.

The four shelves and greenspine's hint would lend itself to consider the sorcery titles as natural inhabitants for the shelves. Khare would probably pair well with Deathtrap Dungeon, but apart from that I got nothing, especially not on the stickers.

Not Sorcery! (though it's an understandable wrong guess).
And to save anyone going down certain other rabbit holes, I'll also make it clear that this has nothing to do with The Adventures of Goldhawk or The Zagor Chronicles.

There are only four original titles in the Scholastic range... ...what if it were Gates Of Death / Deathtrap Dungeon; Space Assassin / Assassins of Allansia; Crystal Of Storms / Stormslayer (bottom row)... ...not quite sure where that leaves Talisman Of Death / The Port Of Peril, though...
...oh wait...
2 repeated letters in the titles of Talisman of Dea [TH] e Port of Peril 5 repeated letters in The Gates of [DEATH] trap Dungeon 8 repeated letters in Space [ASSASSIN] s of Allansia 6 repeated letters in Crystal of [STORMS] layer.
Stormslayer gets the label, and goes in the bottom right. The gaps all represent the Scholastic titles.

That's it. Congratulations.
The bookcase gives a click and swings to one side on hinges, revealing itself to be a secret door. You squeeze through the gap into the next part of this deranged set-up.

Beyond the gap lies a similar small room, only where the last one had an absurdly narrow bookcase, this one has a ridiculously short shelf. You reckon it could take half a dozen books, maximum.
On the opposite side of the room is a door. The door has six panels, and in each is sketched a rather evil looking monster: an Angry Yellow Blob; a Rasaur; a Corpse Golem; a Verminspawn; a Mudgrinder; and a Demothrax.
The door has a device that looks a bit like an ear trumpet poking out of the lock. Does this mean it needs a password, perhaps? You try a few. "Alaralatanalara." "Fanananana Cosim Patana." "Apfis Nev." No such luck - you're going to have to work out how to open the door yourself...

The door hears you scream, and opens on its creaky, rusting hinges, to reveal another rotten, gloomy old tunnel.
With a sigh of resignation, you walk through it...

The tunnel runs straight on until it opens out into a room containing another tableau representing a scene from a Fighting Fantasy gamebook. The walls are painted a chilly-looking shade of white, and a large goldfish bowl stands on a mini-fridge in the centre. Inside the bowl is what appears to be a signed photo of Tilda Swinton in the movie adaptation of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. At the foot of the mini-fridge is a portable CD player, on top of which are stacked three CDs: Belinda Carlisle's Heaven on Earth, David Bowie's The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, and Huey Lewis and the News' Fore!Looking again at the photo, you see that what you had taken for an autograph is actually a brief message in Sid's handwriting, reading, 'Play me music'. Can you pick the right track from one of the available albums?

It's all about the discs in Caverns...
Definitely not playing Ziggy Stardust. I should play Hip To Be Square, but I'm more of a Belinda Carlisle fan, so I think I'll play my favourite Circle In The Sand... twice.

Sid's voice rings out: "You are clever - insolent, but clever."
A concealed hatch in the ceiling swings open, and around a dozen ice cubes fall into the room, followed by a rope ladder attached at the top.
You climb up, wondering if you're getting any closer to finding a way out of this madhouse.

You climb up, wondering if you're getting any closer to finding a way out of this madhouse. That seemed a lot easier than normal. Grimslade as in my almost cheating solution. I think this is the only one I will ever manage to solve.
