"Good grief"

[champskees]

The party immediately begins searching the walls of this empty chamber. After about a minute of searching...

Something is happening. Shapes are beginning to form in the room. You can make out a bookcase lining the north wall. A fireplace with a burning fire is becoming visible in the centre of the east wall. A tall, lean man is standing by the fireplace, looking at you. Along the south wall stands a pedestal, on top of which is a cup of fuming liquid. The man opens his mouth and speaks: 'So! Nandras has some visitors, eh? And what do these intruders want in here?'

"No harm is meant but we are on a quest."

[vagsancho]

"Intruders" ...
"You know who you're talking to?
Kradon says, threateningly, in a hoarse voice, pointing his walking stick to him.
" tell me now where I can find what I am looking for !!"

[johnbrawn1972]

"Do you have any information on the dungeon or anything to trade?"

"Ignore the mutterings of that enfeebled dolt."

[a moderator]

"Good day to you.
"We did not mean to intrude: we had no idea that this room was occupied.
"Do you know of any others who live down here?"

[vagsancho]

Kradon suddenly gets angry and says:
"I am old but you must know that I am with you all until death!
But why are you so god'am polite to strangers? Do you really think that being educated will give you some kind of advantage?"

[a moderator]

"Why are you so rude to strangers? Do you really think being offensive without provocation will get them to share their knowledge with you?"

[vagsancho]

"yes." (a sigh)
"Without the Essence, fear is the strongest power"

[a moderator]

"The only fear inspired by your behaviour is the rest of the party's fear that you will offend someone powerful, who will make us all pay a terrible price for your rudeness."

[johnbrawn1972]

"Lets hope he only punishes evil doers and rude people."

[champskees]

Nandras shakes his head disapprovingly at Throma after listening to her apology. 'Before you all barged in here, did you not think to knock first?'

He then turns to Kradon with a steely glare. 'Fear you? You dare insult the great Nandras? Let this be a warning to those who would draw the ire of a WIZARD!' Nandras then mutters an archaic phrase and gestures towards Kradon with a flick of his wrist. The air seems to thicken around Kradon, and within only moments the Freeze spell has taken effect. Kradon is now completely immobilized and unable to act!

Now it's Civilservicus' turn to face the wizard's cold blue eyes. 'You suggest that I might only punish evil doers, yes? Tell me, oh noble lords and ladies, in the room from which you have just emerged, what items are left hanging on the wall?' 

[vagsancho]

Immobilized and unable to act, defenceless, kradon still has the capacity to comunicate, telepaticaly, and says:
" i hate wizards"
"i told you to dont take nothing from that wall“
" i actually miss that birdman now"

[a moderator]

"The warning sign is still there..."
Looks at Murg, trying to remember whether or not he replaced the portrait on the wall after examining it.

"I have taken the pouch containing one gold coin."

[johnbrawn1972]

"I have taken the pouch as it had no owner. We are searching for the crystal key. I am sorry if I have offended you."

[johnbrawn1972]

"May we offer Kradon as compensation?"

[andrewwright]

Murg: "I left the portrait in the room, but I did take the flaming torch"

[johnbrawn1972]

"Basically we lifted everything we could carry. Is thoroughness a virtue in your world?"

[vagsancho]

"For one moment i have thought in taking the portrait, however the hideous face on it domove me from that"

[thealmightymudworm]

"Well the axe is still there. I was just saying how much it looks like mine."

[champskees]

He listens to the party as they explain how well they 'cleaned' the adjacent room, leaving nothing but the sign and the portrait. He looks at the flaming torch in Murg's hand, the fine-looking axe in Jack's, and sighs. 'Marg would be spinning in his grave if he saw this,' he grumbles. Closing his eyes, Nandras mutters an incantation; he is casting an ESP spell. Halfway through, his eyes go wide and he stares at the ice sculpture he created only moments ago. He then relaxes and addresses the party once again.

'It seems that you are quite the mix of adventurers. How on Titan you are all able to function together as a group is anyone's guess. Although you clearly have no regard for one's personal space and belongings, it appears that all of you are more friend than foe, and most of you are at least trying to be honest.' He shoots a glance at Jack as he finishes the sentence. 'So I guess I can assist you, quid pro quo of course.' He turns to his desk and looks down at one of several open books lying on its polished darkwood surface.

'Beyond the north door of Marg's chambers, there is a resting place for one of the old princes that had used this ancient well during his lifetime. His final request was to be entombed here, for good luck. Unfortunately, he has become somewhat of a nuisance for me and is interfering with my research. I need you to destroy his body. Once this has been done, return to me, and you will receive your reward.' His hand disappears underneath his robe, and after a short amount of fumbling and searching, reemerges holding a large, Crystal Key.

'You have your quest, brave adventurers. Oh, and don't worry about your little friend here.' Nandras gestures to Kradon and smiles, 'I want to have a little chat with him, alone. He should thaw out soon. Meanwhile, the rest of you have work to do.' 

[a moderator]

"If this prince has become an undead being, he might not be vulnerable to conventional weapons. Do you know if we would need a specific kind of weapon to do the job properly? Marg's axe, for example?"

[kieran]

<Whispers to the rest of the party> "How do we know we even need this key anyway? I say leave the dead to rot and let's go back to the bird man's room."

[johnbrawn1972]

"We have to take this quest. We now have two pieces of information."

"Is the axe magical as suggested and able to kill the possibly undead?"

"The other possibility is we need to explore further to find holy water or an enchanted weapon."

To Nandras "Do we need an enchanted weapon to defeat your enemy."

[johnbrawn1972]

"Can you examine the axe to see if it has anything helpful written on it like killer of the undead?"

"I suggest 2 of us go through the north door. One with the axe and me with my standard weapon. This way we can make a swift retreat if we need to find holy water."

"We will report back to the room next door and then inform here or search the rest of the dungeon".

"I am sure we are on the right lines. We are questing for the Crystal Key and then we will need to explore the rest of the dungeon for the booty. My guess is the other north door is access to the rest of the dungeon."

[vagsancho]

"It was really needed all this show to us to be together alone?
So, what do you say of new, my old Nandras?"

[johnbrawn1972]

"Can you make this ice spell permanent to shut up this gibbering incoherent lunatic."

[champskees]

Nandras smiles and taps the side of his bald head with his index finger. 'Use this. I hope i'm not keeping you in the dark, but if you cannot work it out yourselves, you are not worthy of the key i'm afraid. Now go! Return to me when your quest is complete!' And with that, the wizard, along with the contents of the room, vanish once again. The room has returned to its empty state, with the new addition of a frozen old man in its centre.

"I don't trust this Nandras. Who's to say he will keep to his side of the bargain, considering he can apparently vanish into thin air? He's probably sending us into some death trap of some sort. Guess we don't have much of a choice though."
