Finally got a copy of Deathtrap Dungeon for a fair price. Waited patiently for it arrive from the covid-delayed postal service...finally it got here. I feverishly ripped open the packaging to find... EVERY SINGLE paragraph IN PERMANENT PEN has the one true path reference circled, making the book utterly useless. Imagine my deflation... (full disclosure: I saw later that the eBay listing DID call this out, I just missed it) Happy ending - found another right after for a good price and the seller HAND DELIVERED IT next day.

For the love of all that's holy...it's a good job I was sat down when viewing consequences of this monstrous act

Annoying - I used to have a copy of Fangs of Fury where the previous owner had done the same. Or so I thought til I tried a circled option and it resulted in an instant death!

Haha. My good lady was perplexed at how upset I was and I told her I would have to post here in order to find like minded people who understand what a truly heinous act this is.

Eek. I like that they've even circled that you should roll less than or equal to your SKILL. What do they think this is, a Paul Mason book? The only thing you could do with that would be to find a pen that writes indiscernibly to that one and go through circling a bunch of other numbers.

What I want to know is why are you buying the second most printed book, after Warlock, second-hand?
I could understand if you were buying Slaves of the Abyss and were a little disappointed but this seems madness on multiple levels.

There is something about that musty 80s gamebook smell that is intoxicating! Takes me back to the days of playing them at my desk or when I actually used to go to libraries.
I havent seen an example that bad Zoove but rare is the second hand FF book Ive bought that doesnt have the character sheet filled in at least. I guess we all had to do that at least once to figure out how impractical it was? Haha!

My eBay copy of Night Dragon has the cover and all the pages trimmed/ guillotined top and bottom by about a centimetre in total! - I have no idea why someone would dae this and it looks stumpy and stoopid on my bookshelf....

I think some printings of the later ones were smaller. I seem to remember a copy of magehunter up for sale that was the same.

If he just wanted a greenspine ahem buy an absolutely knackered copy that can sit on your shelf then buy a pristine copy of the new version that could not possibly be adulterated. I reiterate this is madness.

What I want to know is why are you buying the second most printed book, after Warlock, second-hand? Maybe he wanted the Puffin edition? That is EXACTLY it...my OCD won't allow me to have any of the new re-prints. I can only have the star covers or the zig zags. In no way am I allowed to buy anything new. I'm a stickler for vintage things. A new re-print in my house would be sacrilege. Same goes for my extensive sci-fi novel collection. Masterworks editions? Wash your mouth out. Mass market 70s paperbacks or GTFU.

My whole bookcase of, I think, 3-400 sci-fi books are all without exception from the glory days of publishing. I think the oldest thing on my shelf is from the 90s, and even that I thought twice about buying. It's a 70s explosion of musty dog eared yellowed pages over here. I'm ok with the sheet filled out...I rarely use it, tbh. I use a notebook so I can just keep it next to me as I play and map things as I go along.

Ha, didn't notice this on first read. Yes...the Adventure Sheet is super impractical...the fight encounter boxes aren't big enough, no room for notes, the equipment section is way too small. What I did for a while was actually download sheets from the web, and print at A3 to make them easier to work with but decided in the end just to use a notebook.

As someone who used to collect vinyl and received an unplayable, filthy, heavily scratched very rare promo with an otherwise unreleased remix on it, I feel your pain.

There is a collection of books 1-59 to buy for £1999? Is that a reasonable price?

I don't know if this is the right place. In a bid on ebay UK, I bought ten books, eight from puffin and two from wizard. Total of about 120 €. The seller combines the shipping costs by multiplying the shipping costs of each book by the total number of books. The total shipping cost is about 75 € with Royal Mail International Standard. I live in Spain. I find the shipping costs very expensive and they do not resemble the official Royal Mail rates for weight, size and destination. I don't know if I'm being ripped off, can anyone give me their opinion?

The cheapest he could do it for would be about €40 if he put them in three bigger packages (I don't think you can send them all together in one package). Of course it depends on the books as well. If the 8 puffin ones were numbers 52-59 and the wizard ones were howl of the werewolf and blood of the zombies, it's a bargain.

S/he may not have realised they're all going to the same person. Try sending a message asking if they wouldn't mind bundling them together and giving you a partial shipping refund. However, if they refuse, I don't think there is much you can do unfortunately - when you buy on eBay, you're agreeing to pay the shipping rate listed.

Thanks you for your replies. The idea was to send them together in one package to save costs. I've been an Ebay user since the 2000s, and it's been quite a while since I've participated in an auction. I usually buy by direct payment or best offer. The truth is that I didn't ask before. My mistake. There were puffin books that were auctioned for 224 euros each (58 and 59). Others were expensive but not that much. I already have 59 but edited by wizard and I bought it on amazon for 10 or 11 euros I can't remember. The most expensive in this purchase has been BVP by Paul Manson about 25 euros and Beneath Nightmare Castle about 18 euros and the rest 12 euros on average, some sci fi titles, Slaves of the abyss, Demons of the deep, and others. I would buy them new but I know they are unlikely to be reissued again, these and the ones I don't have.
