I own lots of dice. Many of them are in board games, but I also have a lot that I keep in a bag when I’m not using them. I thought that today would be a good day to roll all the ones that aren’t boxed up and see what everyone here thinks of the results I got. Here they are.
5
5 (this die was part of the Fighting Fantasy Quest Pack)
6
1 (the spots on this one have faded, and the only way to work out that this was a 1 was to check the other sides)
2
3
1
4
2
4
1
1
6
1 (this die came free with issue 2 of a gamebook magazine called Proteus)
5
5
3
3 (I got this die along with some other freebies from the official Fighting Fantasy forum in the early 2000s)
6
2
2
4
4
2 (this die is really small and difficult to read)
5
1
5 & 2 (these were free with the replacement copy of Proteus 2 I got when they had a special offer on back issues)
2 & 2 (these are sealed inside a shaker the same kind of shape as a snowglobe, so they are very good for playing gamebooks during car or train rides)
I also have two dice with colours instead of numbers on, but I did not roll them.
Have any of you rolled any good or especially interesting numbers recently?

I rolled a 7 on a d6 recently. Damnedest thing.

FFEnthusiast, I notice the Proteus dice did rather poorly, on average. Can you account for this? Are they usually that bad? Perhaps you could re-roll them and put together some stats with mean, median and mode. Do they have 'Proteus' actually written on them or are they just normal looking?
Also could you describe your emotions when you rolled a 1 followed by a 1 and then ... a 6! I can only imagine how you felt about that!!!
I myself have a loaded die. Do you have one of them? It's weighted on the bottom and always rolls a 6, unless it rolls a 1 which is something that infuriates me. I keep it for when I'm playing at Warhammer or Ian Livingstone gamebooks, or for when I'm trying to cheat people out of money.

Seems like you have been on a roll today.
One of my dice rolled under the bed recently and if you go for some of the wilder interpretations of QM, it had rolled into a quantum superposition of 1-6 until I took it out and observed it.
(A well done parody, btw, though I doubt it reaches it's target)

If those rolls are of d20s then they are very intriguing results.
I'm reminded of a couple of friends of mine that I'll call 'James' and 'Harry' (because those are their names). James speculated that a couple of dice were rolling irregularly and Harry responded by enthusiastically writing down every roll from games of Settlers of Catan for a few years.
Hundreds and hundreds of rolls. He then lost the paper – which I thought was quite inventive because you wouldn't think it would be possible to make that process any more boring and pointless. Anyway, there were some interesting dice rolls in the Simpsons that was on today.

I must admit, I came on here today and thought "Hmm, I wonder if there are any April Fool's Day jokes... "... "Nope, just the usual stuff."

More details are needed. Was each die A six sided die? What colour were they? Did you reroll the dice that were cocked? Could you afford to keep A small army in A castle? If you added them all up, would it total 2+ 2 or 4? Did you have any naughty dice that didn't play nicely with the other dice and had to be put on a shelf until they knew better?
I had an interesting experience with dice the other day. I was playing crypt of the sorcerer, and the die came up as a 1, but in my head it was a 6. In fact, all the dice looked like sixes, except when testing my luck or rolling for enemy attack strength, which looked like ones. I still died.

I once rolled 7d6 and got seven different numbers. Honest.

I thought it was a genuine post, just a bit shorter than normal and not as obviously made up.

Not very likely, because the cat is trapped in a box with a vial of poison, and simultaneously alive and dead, isn't it?

This mildly amusing post about 'dice-shaming' popped up on my FB timeline. As it's the anniversary of this thread it seemed like a good place to put it.

With the advent of modern technology the idea of relying on rolling actual cubes seems absurd.
I use an app which not only simulates the dice roll but totals them for you. Which is, um, great.

Agreed, just like the Random Number Table in Lone Wolf. In Gamebook Adventures you can effectively 'cheat' say if you get a bad roll, because if you touch dice a second or so after they land, the dice flip and reroll. I imagine 2020s apps are more advanced than that.

I asked all two and a half of my friends if they would approve of the use of "virtual dice".
They retired to the "dice lounge" - (usual location), and after some initial difficulty in entering due to the rather odd shape of my half friend, I find that they have yet to return to me.
I stand in the hallway of my own house, alone and very, very hot.
