Balthus Dire and Zagor

A fine battle between Balthus Dire and Voivod sees a dogged Dire come back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3. As brilliant as I think Legend of the Shadow Warriors is, it's an easy decision for my casting vote...BD all the way, for all of the gushing reasons I gave in the 'Best boss fights' thread.
Meanwhile, the Z-Dog sails through 5-1.
Winners: Balthus Dire & Zagor
Two of Volgera Darkstorm's finest students have made it through to the semis then...will they be joined by the third member of the Demonic Three, or will the servant of the trickster god prevail instead? And while Jann vs Heydrich may look like a mismatch on paper, can the minimite's charm win through against the vampire's sinister allure?
Jann the Minimite vs Reiner Heydrich
The Riddling Reaver vs Zharradan Marr
The end is finally in sight! The first semi final, and the voting deadline for this round, is 4pm Mon 6th.

I don't even like Jann, and I think Reiner Heydrich is a bit cool.
I prefer to pick sides than remain neutral, so Zharradan Marr.

Reiner Heydrich is generous enough to leave two magic swords lying around so you have a sporting chance
The Riddling Reaver isn't defeated by a single dainty piece of crystal

Jann's antimagic abiilities surely wouldn't help him against a vampire, so Heydrich. the Riddling Reaver against Zharadan Marr is a close call, but since RIddling Reaver is one of the few people who could actually outwit Marr, I'd gamble on the Riddling Reaver having got what it takes to defeat Marr.

Reiner is a classy vampire with great dress sense, but Jann beats that by dispensing with clothes altogether. And Jann will win by sheer annoyance value.
I always thought of the Reaver as an irritating foe, always interfering with what PCs want to do. So he loses due to sheer annoyance value.
So I pick Jann the Minimite and Zharradan Marr, in defiance of all logic or rationality.

An intriguing fight between Jann and Heydrich there...Heydrich took an early lead which, despite Jann mounting several attempted comebacks, the bloodsucker was able to maintain throughout. A marginal win of 5-4 in Reiner's favour was the final score.
No such problems for the Reaver, as he swats a formidable foe in Marr aside with a fair amount of ease. 7-2 to Logaan's steward.
Winners: Reiner Heydrich & The Riddling Reaver
Quarter Final Eliminations: Voivod, Karam Gruul, Jann the Minimite, Zharradan Marr
Four left standing. Only one opponent stands between each and a place in the grand final.
Semi Finals Reiner Heydrich vs The Riddling Reaver Balthus Dire vs Zagor
Straight from their clashes with Jann and Marr, a weary Heydrich and Riddling Reaver take to the battlefield once again.

Just the one battle to vote on this time as we approach the ultimate victor! Deadline is 4pm Weds 8th.

Reiner Heydrich for being a bit cliched, but still a tough vampire.

The Riddling Reaver. Always one step ahead, you never know when he'll appear or what he'll do.

Reiner Heydrich for offering those impudent peasants that try to kill him the chance to partake in an exquisite brandy or expensive white wine. No other villain shows consideration for their attackers having had an arduous journey.
(the rest of the forum will vote for the onesie wearing poseur as is expected. The Count will however win in morally regardless of the final result).

I would rather be served brandy than riddles - Heydrich for me.

We have our first finalist! Heydrich to his credit is the first opponent to make the Reaver break a sweat in a tight run thing, but ultimately the vampire is vanquished by 4 votes to 3.
Winner: The Riddling Reaver
No build up is required from me for the second semi final as two of FF's most iconic villains go head to head. This should be interesting!
Balthus Dire vs Zagor
The voting deadline for the last battle before the grand final is 4pm Fri 10th.

Zagor is much more iconic, but also much more overused. So, I would have voted for Balthus Dire, but I dislike ponytails, so I'm going for the obvious choice - Zagor.

Zagor is perhaps the most iconic character in FF, but I'm voting for Dire (again). Unlike Zagor, he doesn't make underwhelming reappearances and is arguably the more intimidating of the two. And finally, Dire's stats are higher.

I'm a bit stuck on this one. Does Zagor seem to be an inconsistent character? I mean contrast him in the Trolltooth Wars with how he is in the later FF.

Zagor better than Balthus
Demonic Three killed their evil mentor - not really evil. They share his treasure and his magic resources. Balthus and Zharradan bought an army and a secure home with their money - now they're skint and have to invade to rectify that. Zagor wanted to be left alone to study his magic and had enough savings to last a lifetime, so he took residence in an abandoned mountain and employed a few creatures to guard it - smart. Word got out and the villagers of Stonebridge became jealous of his riches. They make up rumours of his evil and get some poor sods to do away with him in the hope that there may be some leftovers afterwards. Later Zagor is killed and his riches plundered. Zagor had a feeling this would happen but had a resurrection for his plan B. Zagor returns to Firetop Mountain a bit miffed at what happened and decides to get revenge by becoming the evil wizard people already branded him as.
Zagor was a victim. The only evil he did was after he was killed. And Balthus was dumb, having all that money plus his inheritance and he still couldn't afford windowless rooms.

I was leaning towards Balthus Dire but others here have convinced me to go Team Z.

Hang on. Balthus Dire can't stand daylight. But Zagor hides out deep within a mountain, far from the reach of the sun. Is he the same?
Discarding that idea, to defeat Dire you need to have an all-night session, running into the dawn, whereas Zagor can be halfway wiped out with a single game of Go Fish. So Balthus Dire for me.
(Sorry about repeating the card game reference, but I'm getting a bit thin for reasons.)

I'll vote for Balthus Dire - tabletop gaming enthusiast who clearly does a lot of weightlifting as well.
