This solution is for the original version (I don't own the revised edition).
Another very fun book, and not as hard as its predecessor, although it is still hard. If you follow the optimal path, you should have little trouble reaching the final sequence, but then there's a do or die Psi test followed by a difficult boss fight; most of your deaths should come from this encounter.
Having a high Psi stat is important here, solely because of that aforementioned test. Agility will also greatly matter in the final encounter.
- Get King Valafor's ring
- Rein in and turn to face the rider
- Stop to examine their remains
- Get the skeletal rider's parchment
- Ride along the bank to the bridge
- Ignore the sign
- Fight two Trolls (attack the one with the lower Vigour)
- Flee when one Troll is dead
- Carry on to meet him
- Step off the path
- Get Shambol's staff and a bag of acorns
- Enter the inn
- Sit down at the Knight's table
- Pour some oil on the Knight's armour
- Help the Knight
- Fight the Ruffian
- +6 Vigour, get the locket
- Push at the gate
- You have the skeletal rider's parchment
- Cross the courtyard to the tower
- You have Shambol's staff
- You meet the Golden Hawk, +1 permanent Psi
- Choose the gold door
- Go through the archway
- Go into the next room
- Offer something from your backpack
- Offer the locket
- Take the right-hand staircase
- Use the bag of acorns
- Test your Agility with 2D6
Failure = -2 Vigour, then Test your Agility with 2D6 again
Failure = -3 Vigour
- Fight the Orc (he will have less Vigour if you passed the first test)
- +6 Vigour
- Open the door
- See what the dog is interested in
- Investigate the fountain
- Wade through the water to get the boots
- Fight the Water Monster
- Get the elven boots (+3 permanent Agility)
- Go east
- Go in and investigate
- Drink the "Strong Stuff"
- +10 Vigour
- Back out and return the way you came
- Fight him
- Fight the Lizard Man
- Get the bronze key
- Ignore the voice and run on down the corridor
- You have befriended the Golden Hawk earlier
- Fight the Wyrd
- You have a bronze key
- Talk to the suit of armour
- Ask the bronze warrior to pull the lever
- Open the door
- Search the room
- Get the clay doll
- Leave the room
- Take out an item from your backpack
- Use the clay doll
- Take the central stairway
- Go through the doorway in front of you
- Refuse
- Refuse again
- Test your Psi with 2D6: Failure = game over
- Use one of your items
- Use King Valafor's ring
- Test your Agility with 2D6
Success = Fight Arkayn Darkrobe (easier version)
Failure = -15 Vigour, Fight Arkayn Darkrobe (harder version)
- King Valafor's health is restored and he can reclaim his throne.
