I've been watching The Musketeers new series on the BBC and have been enjoying it enormously. OK, so the plots may not be very original or complicated, but the setting is great, the characters are likeable, and the whole thing is just a lot of fun. Kind of like FF in fact. I held out watching it initially in case it was utter pants, like Atlantis was (from the two episodes I watched of it) - I felt it was like a kids TV programme rather than a series historical/fantasy series.

I've just seen the first episode so far. It's quite daft but it is great fun, agreed. What is it about? I definitely won't be able to watch it here in Singapore, unless it's on YouTube too. The episodes do seem to be up on YouTube (possibly not legally, so maybe not for long!). Try searching for 'the musketeers 2014' on there. It's vaguely based on Alexandre Dumas's book, but you won't need to know much about it to follow it.

Eh it's watchable. Louis XIII is the best thing about it. As a Dumas fan, I wish they had stuck a bit closer to the books - which actually suit the TV series format for adaptation very well. D'Artagnan is one of my favourite fictional characters but I've yet to see any portrayal of the character that came anywhere close and this guy seems particularly forgettable - though maybe that's because the writers seem to think Aramis is the main character. Oh and Milady should be blonde

Oh and Milady should be blonde Yes, Louis is great. I find the whole thing a bit of welcome fun, reasonably well done (e.g. the sets and locations), with likeable characters. And Milady is excellent, regardless of the hair colour! I don't mind if this sort of thing isn't close to the originals, as long as it's not claiming to be (which this isn't).

I've been enjoying the series, too. Liked the Molotov cocktail-flinging nuns last week. Looking forward to the finale.

We'd never have guessed you know! Erm... As for D'Artagnan (I can't be the only one of our generation who can't help but call him Dogtagnan), yes, he's the least well realised of the characters. He's likeable enough, but doesn't quite have the presence of Porthos, the charisma of Aramis, or the ill-at-ease believableness of Athos. Be interesting to see how he shapes up in the finale tonight.

Oh absolutely and I've liked some of the less accurate adaptations (the recent Paul WS Anderson film for instance). Still, I can't help think this is a missed opportunity, given the format.
