I found the Cretan Chronicles to be quite entertaining throughout. The combat system works fairly well, but I found the stats of many of the enemies to be unbalanced. Early on, they can be quite tough, but once you get some decent armour, they are a cakewalk. The story uses practically every Greek myth you could think of including the use of the Greek gods themselves, which makes for some interesting situations. The Honour/Shame mechanic is a little convoluted and restricts the readers play style somewhat; if you want to play a heartless killer this book is probably not for you. Another annoyance is the use of the ‘taking a hint’ secret paragraphs, which at times penalise you for making a decision with very little information to go on.
This solution is intended for those who wish to complete all three books in the series. In Book I, the idea is to accrue as many Honour points as possible whilst minimising risk and Shame points. As there are a couple of mandatory fights throughout the series, Ares is by far the best patron to select as the permanent +2 Might bonus is second to none.
