A holy hand grenade would be great about now
Oh and I think I will retreat 1 square away from the giant before my abortive attempt at Nemesis Bolt this turn.

Mudworm: You have outlined your plan previously, where you basically wanted to protect the Enchanter. Lucky for you, your initiative score is lower that the giant's. So when the giant squashed the Trickster, I assume on that turn you closed with the Giant and I will let you pick up the sword for that turn. Of course you will be defending so it will be a while before you can use it. Still, good idea.
Skrymir the Giant
The giant attacks the Sage! He rolls a 10, narrowly missing.
The Enchanter is almost there...just a little bit more and the casting will be complete!

Skrymir the GiantThe giant attacks the Sage again. He rolls a 7. Then he rolls a 13, inflicting 11 Damage, killing the Sage exactly. RIP Sage. You know who's next, don't you Enchanter?

Skrymir the Giant
The giant attacks the Enchanter! He rolls a 6, but only clips the lucky mage, rolling an 11 for 9 Damage!
The Enchanter is barely hanging on, both mentally and physically.

Damn, pity the other healing scroll is on the sage's corpse. Oh well, providing I live long enough, let's do the nemesis bolt again! 7. It works! And does 30 damage.

Only problem is he never gets the chance.
Just as the Enchanter is about to let off his Nemesis Bolt, Skrymir attacks, rolling an 8 and 11, inflicting 9 Damage. The Enchanter is dead.
End of combat:
Skrymir Endurance: 46 Trickster: Dead Sage: Dead Enchanter: Dead
Oops, as GM I probably shouldn't have put such a high level baddie in there in the first place... Sorry people!
On a more positive note, the party did make it right to the end on the first go, and I did not fudge any of the rolls (I was tempted though, especially when I realized I had killed the Warrior). In fact you could have chosen to say nothing to Skrymir and you all would have walked out alive - though I wouldn't exactly have called it a success!
Anyway thanks for playing folks. I really only wanted to run the first book anyway as the typing of prose was starting to wear me down a bit, but that was really cool. I have just started playing Pathfinder in real life and have elected to GM the next campaign, so it was good practice too!
In the future, I am thinking of running some Advanced Fighting Fantasy on the board. I hear good things about the Riddling Reaver, but I think I might start with something more entry level (mostly for me), so if you have any advice and/or interest in playing let me know. A cursory glance at Dungeoneer says a maximum of six heroes, which means more of you regulars are signing up to this one!
In the meantime, enjoy the Christmas break. I'll actually be in Cambodia over January to do some missionary work. As part of my service, I'll be giving some of the schools some of my newer FF books. Who knows, FF catches on there, could kickstart a complete revival of the franchise!!! Hey, it's that time of year when miracles happen, right?
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Tragic end to the heroes. I've been gripped by this little adventure. Thanks to everyone involved. Have a good time in Cambodia.

A quick peek at the relevant section reveals that Skrymir would have been even worse if we'd given him the gauntlet.

Many thanks for running this, Champskees, and Merry Christmas to you too. It's been great fun (until my death - and even then I appreciated the Monty Python foot). Apologies to Sylas for dying before he could reclaim his character. I must look out this book now and figure out where we went wrong. (What is this Kalium stuff? Did we miss a trick with the octagonal things?) I'd certainly be interested in anything else you'd like to run.

Thanks for running that Champskees, think that was the furthest I've ever got. Still not the biggest fan of the battle system, but it's definitely more fun with more people.
