A Ulule (a French version of Kickstarter/Indigogo etc.) project to translate/expanded Out of the Pit has been launched here: fr.ulule.com/bestiaire-df-jdr/The team have previous successfully funded and completed translations/expansions of the 2nd Edition AFF annual (2012) and Titan - The Fighting Fantasy World in 2014.

i hope the French realise how lucky they are. if this was in English i'd jump on it in a second. the fact that about half the illustrations are completely new still makes me want to get it anyway. unfortunately while i am super interested and jealous, it's not something i'm likely to purchase. it's not exactly cheap and if i'm going to splash out on something like this, i'd want to at least be able to understand the language. looks fantastic, but aimed at such a niche group of followers i have doubts it will be a singing success.

They're already at 50% of their target after 3 days (& as noted above successfully funded versions of the AFF annual and Titan via this method too).

that's great and all. i just don't understand why its French only. not like most of the fans know French. if these were released in English as well with whatever new material they had inside i'm sure it would do a lot better. as it stands it feels like the rest of us are missing out.

They're French-only because a) English language versions already exist (& are licensed by Arion Games) and b) because they are a French RPG games company targeting a French-speaking market. If you want to complain, complain to Arion Games and see if you can convince them to produce 2nd editions of their AFF annual, Titan, and OOTP that take advantage of these expanded French versions.

I think at this stage trying to work out what an official (or more-so canon) FF product is pointless. The rights to FF stuff have been sold to loads of different people (e.g. Myriador, Arion, Tin Man, Inkle, the French group), and none of it is centrally managed. That means people can pretty much do what they like with FF without really taking into account whether it melds with the world as defined in the original publications (and very often it doesn't much at all). It's kind of a weird situation to be honest.

You can buy a copy of this book for 14 euros or so on the Scriptarium website, which I think is pretty cheap. I bought a copy solely for the artwork and will be enjoying it for years to come (I translate things very slowly).

Thanks for bringing up this topic, I didn't know it had been mentioned here! I made a few (new) illustrations for that book. That one for example
