I like silence when reading so that I can allow the real world to fade away and the book to consume me. That said, the Celtic music in your link sounded like a very fitting accompaniment to a gamebook so I tried it on low volume whilst reading Destiny Quest. For me, it mildly enhanced the experience, as DQ is quite chilled anyway. But I will always read FF in silent immersion, with only the rain pattering at my window.

I can't say I've ever listened to music much whilst playing FF. I can see the temptation though. Perhaps something like Debussy's L'Isle Joyeuse for general, dreamy adventuring or Saint-Saens's Aquarium for an underwater adventure like Demons of the Deep - with John Williams's Duel of the Fates (here via the Simpsons) for final showdowns:
However, for the all too familiar experience for most of restarting an FF book after dying for the 20th time and trying to play by the rules in the blind hope that this time you will somehow reach 400-style success despite not feeling as though you're making any progress whatsoever…? I'd suggest that The Beautiful South's Good as Gold has that feeling pretty spot on: (I'd much prefer to have the audio for this alone, but that doesn't seem to be an option.)
Good as Gold lyrics: Don't know what I'm doing here I'll carry on regardless Got enough money for one more beer I'll carry on regardless
Good as gold, but stupid as mud He'll carry on regardless They'll bleed his heart 'til there's no more blood But carry on regardless
Carry on with laugh Carry on with cry Carry on with brown under moonlit sky
I want my love, my joy, my laugh, my smile, my needs Not in the star signs Or the palm that she reads I want my sun-drenched, wind-swept Ingrid Bergman kiss Not in the next life I want it in this I want it in this
Got one note to last all week I'll carry on regardless The hill to happiness is far too steep I'll carry on regardless
Dried his mouth in the Memphis sun He carried on regardless Tried to smile and he bit his tongue But carry on regardless
Carry on with work Carry on with love Carry on with cheering Anything above
I want my love, my joy, my laugh, my smile, my needs Not in the star signs Or the palm that she reads I want my sun-drenched, wind-swept Ingrid Bergman kiss Not in the next life I'll have it in this I'll have it in this
I don't want silver, I just want gold Carry on regardless Bronze is for the sick and the old But carry on regardless
I want my love, my joy, my laugh, my smile, my needs Not in the star signs Or the palm that she reads I want my sun-drenched, wind-swept Ingrid Bergman kiss Not in the next life I'll have it in this I'll have it in this

I sometimes put on film soundtracks as non distracting music - 'Jurassic Park' is a favourite of mine, creates a nice atmosphere.

Like lordomnibok I generally prefer to play in silence as well, however I have found some exceptions that can enhance the experience. I have a thunderstorm sound machine that I use for House of Hell which is great.
I also have to say that the song "Victory" from The Pirate Movie is absolutely perfect for Seas of Blood. Not really long enough to listen while you play but I have a listen beforehand to get me pumped up and then its in my head during my playthrough.

Like many other readers I prefer silence. But recently I get in touch with the genre Dungeon Synth, and it worked quite well with reading/playing gamebooks. I made a playlist from various artists with ambient tracks that are not to distracting. There are a lot of Dungeon Synth artists on bandcamp. For a start you can beginn with the Dungeon Synth compilations from Antarctica. dungeonsynthcompilation.bandcamp.com/

What music helps create the best atmosphere to play FF by? A few choice selections for me would be: - Strawbs, Hero and Heroine - Wishbone Ash, Argus - Led Zeppelin III (especially great for a stroll thru the Shamutanti Hills) - Uriah Heep, Demons and Wizards - Atomic Rooster, Death Walks Behind You Any other good recommendations?

There's an 80s rap band called Hotline, and a current rock band called The Scaramanga Six, both of whom have songs called House Of Hell.

Bits of the song Aaa on They Might Be Giants' album Glean could almost be an anthem for the first few characters rolled up for an Ian Livingstone gamebook: "What's behind the door behind the piled up furniture? (screams) Aaa! Aaa! "Reach inside the wall and feel around, I think there's something there. Aaa! Aaa!"

Aaa! Aaa!" I love TMBG but I haven't heard Glean yet. I need to check it out. My recommendation: Hawkwind - Chronicles Of The Black Sword. There are two instrumental atmospheric tracks, which set me in the right mood to play a gamebook.

If I had music playing in the background, I'd get distracted by it. Which is bad enough when reading a regular book. In a gamebook you could find yourself reading entirely the wrong reference if you lose your place!
