After a fairly exhaustive search, Talbion finds nothing that indicates a hidden door or an unlocking mechanism in the hard rock face.

Redric grips his sword warily. "Is anyone strong enough to batter the door down? I'd attempt it myself if not for my injured knee."

"I'll have a go. Give me a clear path, and somebody hold this for me." Offers lantern to someone on the opposite side of the passage from Talbion and, once everyone has got out of the way, checks the ground for trip hazards, takes a small run-up and shoulder-charges the door.

Talbion purses his lips and looks at the rest of the group before reluctantly following after Throma, spear at the ready.

"While this is taking place can I go back to the base of the well to see if there any gold coins or diamond rings in the mud? I had wondered if there would be a load of booty at the bottom and then we would need to make our way out via an alternative exit. This is not cowardice as there are hardy souls here. It seems madness if we walked straight passed all the goodies at the beginning".
"In fact I will wait for this encounter to be over and then check. Does Kradon want to assist me?".

Murg has his axe ready and has picked up his lantern, ready to charge through once the door is broken down.
"Teamwork, people, teamwork!"

Throma throws her weight against the door. The hardwood boards make a groaning sound after the impact, but the door is still intact (lose 1 Stamina point as per the rules for attempting to break down doors). As she picks herself up from the floor, the party hears a loud booming voice echo through the narrow confines of the passageway. 'BEWARE, UNWELCOME VISITORS! ANYONE WHO ENTERS FACES CERTAIN DEATH WITHIN!'
After such a strong warning, it seems at least one of the party has decided to seek his fortune in a safer part of the dungeon; near the entrance. Civil carefully scans the floor surrounding the bucket, then moves back to the party after examining the muddy floor of the passage. After centuries of princes and nobility tossing their coinage and wealth down the well, you would think that there would be something left at the base of the well. But there is nothing to be found. It seems that perhaps someone has beaten you to the easy pickings. Whatever treasure still remains, must be through that damnable wooden door.

Sorry Mudgeon, but I can not, now. My back hurts. And besides, why would an old man of my age desire gold or diamonds?

Talbion (who looked almost green in the lamplight when that voice boomed out), shrugs his shoulders, puts his spear down and then charges shoulder-first into the door.

"I hope the rest of the dungeon is not so recalcitrant or this will be a very long adventure"

Did the voice sound as if it came from behind the door or this side of it? Or even from the door itself?

Did the voice sound as if it came from behind the door or this side of it? Or even from the door itself? "Though I can only just recall the ancient scrolls I am sure the idea is simply to fool adventurers who are not persistent".

In spite of the door's dire warning, Talbion makes a determined run at the door. As he charges at the door however, it flies open in front of him. Talbion goes flying headlong into the room, trips up, and bangs his head on the ground. Lose 1 stamina point. The adventurers get their first glimpse of what was behind the door... The room is rectangular and closed doors in the middle of each wall lead off to the north, east and west. Birds flutter around the room, but as you enter, they all fly off into one corner and nestle into the beard of a man sitting at a table. He is short and stocky, and his long beard stretches from his chin over the table. He is picking small round objects from a pouch and popping them into his mouth. They may be nuts of some kind. As you enter, he raises an eyebrow.

Drags Kradon back to the passage. (If a roll is required, the total is 2 (2d6) or 6 (4d6)). "Never insult a stranger straight off like that. What if he's a powerful wizard? Maybe those birds used to be adventurers who were rude to him. Either you go back in and apologise to him, or stay out here until we're ready to go beyond his room."

"Even if he's not a wizard, it is not wise to hurl abuse at people without provocation. "Though apparently Sukumvit once rewarded impudence. So if you can't control that tongue of yours, I suggest you go to Fang and tell the Baron that his dungeon-designing skills stink like a Bloodbeast's slime pit, and see how he rewards you."
