Only one factor justify and is needed to make a structural change in a Fighting Fantasy book: Very simple: it needs to be a very good book, and without that change, that book simply is not a very good book. I only made two changes until now. Each one of the books gained life after that. First one (years ago) - In House of Hell - i made it possible to go through and assist all the sacrÃficial ceremony in the winning path. Second one (a day ago)- Masks of Mayhem - I have made a new paragraph 400. They were both médium books, before that changes, but now they are both very, very good books.

If I wanted to improve House of Hell, I can think of a few things I'd prioritise over participation in the human sacrifice. - Sort out the bonus provided by the Kris Knife.
- Eliminate the possibility of arbitrarily guessing the password.
- Make the white wine the colour of actual white wine.
- Fix the issue where you can learn Mordana's name from the man in grey but not make use of that knowledge.
- Not require the reader to have memorised the direction in which they were travelling before they entered the Azazel room.
- Allow at least a point for 'Master' in the torturer's challenge.
As for Masks of Mayhem, improved odds of getting the Orb should take precedence. You can fix section 400's deficiencies once the readers have a chance of getting there.

It is wonderful that these changes were made in order for these books to be successful as they wouldn't be otherwise.
