A pretty solid adventure, I really like some of the characters you encounter in this book. It is recommended for this adventure that you have a Skill of 11-12 due to the two mandatory Sk 12 opponents you must face. Luck is handy but you can get through the whole adventure without ever needing to actually Test your Luck. You should take the Potion of Fortune if you want to use your Luck in battles, otherwise take the Potion of Strength.
- Take the Potion of Fortune.
- Hold your ground & draw your sword.
- Say you have come from another world.
- Take Talisman of Death & 10 Gold Pieces.
- Go through the forest.
- Back off & leave.
- Cut a way through the undergrowth (-1 Food).
- Pretend you are deaf and dumb.
- Wait to see what happens.
- Turn left into Smith Street.
- Pass the shop.
- Attack it immediately. Use luck once to kill him in two hits.
- Fight Sk 7 St 5 Minion of Death (it inflicts 1 Skill Damage as well as 2 Stamina damage per hit).
- If you lost any skill points, all but one is restored.
- Ignore it and go into Store Street.
- Enter the library.
- Read about either.
- You have the Talisman of Death (2 Damage).
- Lose Talisman of Death.
- Accept his offer and go home with him (+4 Stamina).
- Tell him the whole story & ask for advice.
- Take Jade Rose, Magic Ring (+1 Skill) & 5 Gold Pieces.
- Go to Red Dragon Inn.
- Interrupt the quarrel & give the charm back (+1 Luck).
- You do not have the Brass Tiger Charm.
- Approach the six surly men that appear to be thieves.
- Say you need help with some unfinished business.
- Introduce yourself.
- Say you wish to meet some thieves.
- Take your leave (+1 Luck).
- Take up the Sage’s dinner invite.
- Go with the boy.
- Go with them into the greenhouse.
- Fight the beast.
- Fight Sk 8 St 12 Vivisect (use Luck to kill him quicker).
- Take Spell of Agonizing Doom.
- You have the Jade Rose (+4 Stamina).
- Remember ‘All-Mother, nature herself, preserve me’.
- Try to find a way into the Thieves’ Guild.
- You have not been told about the storm drain.
- You want to steal the Talisman of Death.
- Silence him.
- Use the pommel of your sword to knock him out.
- Let him kill the old man (-1 Luck).
- Drink Potion of Fortune here.
- Roll D6. 1-4 = 3 Damage. 5-6 = 6 Damage.
- Use Scroll of Agonizing Doom.
- Fight Sk 12 St 6 Hawkana (use Luck once to kill her in two strokes).
- Take Talisman of Death (+1 Luck).
- Go back to Hawkana (+6 Stamina).
- Leave through the double doors.
- Test Skill. Fail = 3 Damage.
- Allow his hammer to strike you.
- Run at Tyutchev (3 Damage).
- Fight Sk 10 St 12 Tyutchev (only need to win one combat round against him).
- Call upon a god for aid.
- Choose the All-Mother.
- You are not wearing magical chainmail.
- You had dinner with the sage; ask for directions to the cemetery.
- Ask him politely to let you through.
- Step aside and let him pass first.
- Ignore the lantern and continue searching along the wall (+1 Luck & 2 Stamina).
- Go south east.
- Light a torch & stand your ground (+1 Stamina).
- Examine the Talisman of Death again.
- Try to use the power of the Talisman (+2 Stamina).
- Examine the waterfall.
- Enter the cave.
- Choose any tunnel.
- Go straight through to the tunnel opposite.
- Leave through one of the other doors.
- Go through the dragon door.
- Take the Spear (+1 Skill).
- Fight Sk 8 St 10 Mummy.
- Test Skill. Fail = Death (unless you have a Roc’s Feather (2 Damage)).
- Tell them you mean no harm.
- Offer them some dried meat (-1 Food).
- Go with them.
- Tell them you are searching for the portals on Mount Starreach.
- Take Gourd filled with Gum of Amber Pine (+2 Stamina).
- Investigate the narrow tunnel.
- Grab some scales.
- Take Three Dragon Scales.
- You have the gourd.
- Run to attack the Dragon.
- Test Skill. Fail = Test Luck. Success = 4 Damage. Fail = Turn to Paragraph 43.
- You are wielding the spear.
- Fight Sk 12 St 20 Red Dragon (your attacks inflict 5 damage instead of 2. Fight is over when dragon’s stamina is 5 or less. Use luck to minimise any damage you take).
- Attack the ‘old man’.
- Success! You made it back to Earth.
