Last round the introductory rpg and titan were eliminated. Who is going to vote for the riddling reaver now that one of the authors is on the forum? I am - the author being here does not affect my opinion or my voting either way!
Easy for me to say, though, because I genuinely think The Riddling Reaver is a brilliant character who appears in an imaginative yet classic FF story. It's a superb book, and I wish it were a gamebook rather than an RPG handbook, because then I'd get a lot more fun out of playing it (I get no enjoyment from being a Drunken Manipulator* - I want to be Adventuring Wilf!)
The reasons I am voting for it are that 1) it's not a gamebook, and 2) I don't have the heart to vote out any part of Steve Jackson's superlative Sorcery! series. Neither of which the author could have done anything about. Perhaps next time, the Gods of Luck and Chance will put this book in a round with some rubbish titles (you know - Black Vein Prophecy, Magehunter, or something like that**) and it'll emerge victorious. Until then...
---oOo---
* That is what DM stands for, isn't it?
** Actually, I'm a fan of those two as well. I'm naming them purely because the author is now on the forum!

As much as I like Riddling Reaver and Out of the Pit, it's the gamebooks that make me a fan of the series. Plus Sorcery is (mostly) excellent.

Apart from the instant deaths in Crown of Kings and the Wraith in Khare, I found Sorcery a bit too easy after a few goes. I do love it as a whole, especially the magic mechanic, but it does have many weak areas too. Riddling Reaver and Out of the Pit are excellent books, but I'll assume that the majority are going to want actual gamebooks to go through. Perhaps they should have been saved for a non-game category.

Perhaps they should have been saved for a non-game category. I've no plans to do any more groups after this, so I thought I'd include them here. Riddling reaver is fun, if you want to play that sort of game. It's entertaining to play with friends, not too serious but with a bit of challenge. However, it has to have my vote as I much prefer the Sorcery epic. I think many books will be 'a bit too easy' once you know what you are doing (with some obvious exceptions). Once solved, house of hell is a doddle, as long as you have the requisite fear score. Doesn't mean it's not great though.
