This is a very forgiving book. There are several ways to win, a chance to reroll your initial stats completely, and many opportunities to improve on your initial scores throughout the adventure. My suggestion avoids a lot of trouble and lets you win with the best ending.
- Explore the sunken courtyard.
- Go into the large building to confront the watchers.
- Take Lucky Charm (free Test your Luck).
- Go upward.
- Fight Sk 6 St 4 Barracuda.
- Fight Sk 6 St 6 Barracuda.
- Fight Sk 5 St 6 Barracuda.
- Take 4 Gold Pieces.
- Go back down and explore the tunnel.
- Go left.
- Fight them.
- Fight Sk 8 St 5 Skeleton.
- Fight Sk 7 St 6 Skeleton.
- Take 4 Black Pearls.
- Ignore it and leave the room.
- Swim back up and out of the building.
- Go to the huge red coloured dome with the broken roof.
- Swim towards the floor of the arena.
- Take Harpoon.
- Swim towards the ground level exits.
- Swim towards the glow.
- Talk to him.
- Offer gold.
- You will pay the price of 2 gold pieces per fish.
- Take Glowfish and Sawfish (-4 Gold Pieces).
- Listen to the voice.
- Help him (+2 Luck).
- Take 1 Gold Piece (lose ½ your stamina).
- Roll D6.
o 1-2 = Take Healing Potion (restores stamina to full).
o 3-4 = Open the bottle. Test Luck. Success = +1 Initial Skill. Fail = Stamina reduced to 1.
o 5-6 = Keep the bottle, unopened. Take Greylock’s bottle.
- You may choose to use the harpoon or fight. I recommend just fighting it.
o If you use the harpoon:
o Test Skill. Fail = Cannot attain best ending.
o If you fight:
o Fight Sk 8 St 12 Shark (only need to hit it twice for it to retreat).
- Lift the crown from the statue’s head.
- Fight Sk 6 St 16 Statue.
- Take Jade Crown.
- Open the trapdoor.
- 3D6 Stamina Test. Fail = 1 Damage.
- You possess a glowfish.
- Swim upstream (1 Damage).
- Press ahead (1 Damage).
- Attempt to parley.
- You have such a pearl.
- Give the elemental a pearl (-1 Black Pearl, +1 Initial Luck & restore Luck to new maximum).
- Take Crystal of Unmelting Ice.
- Go up and see what happened.
- Take 2 Black Pearls.
- Go back down the Elemental’s chamber & the coral grotto (1 Damage).
- Continue downstream.
- Leave and continue downstream.
- Go down.
- Go left.
- If you are going to reroll your stats at the sauna later on:
o Examine the cliff face more closely.
o Enter the cave and attack with your sword.
o Fight Sk 7 St 12 Moray Eel.
o Take 1 Gold Piece.
- Swim out over the city.
- Go to the huge palace with striped domes.
- Swim slowly down and hail them.
- Offer him the Jade Crown.
- Take Jewelled Arm Bracelets (+1 Attack Strength).
- Look through the gardens.
- Go to the left.
- Ignore the fountain and go on.
- Sample a fruit (+2 Stamina).
- Go around to the front and meet the old man.
- If you possess Greylock’s Bottle, heal Stamina and Luck to maximum. Otherwise, wait and see what he does.
- Your answer is yes.
- Note the magic word ‘Derd-nu-Heno’.
- Your answer is no.
- You think you want to meet the Sea Dragon.
- Talk to him.
- If your stats are weak, reroll them in the sauna. Otherwise, go to the games room.
- Gamble 1 Gold Piece. Test Luck. Success = +1 Gold Piece. Fail = Lose that Gold Piece.
- Go to the sunken cathedral.
- Pick some seaweed and approach the sea horse.
- Try to jump on it and ride.
- Test Luck.
o Success = +2 Luck.
o Fail = -2 Stamina. Swim harder to get past. Fight Sk 6 St 6 Bloodworms.
- If you have two Gold Pieces:
o Look around the cathedral.
o Explore the interior further.
o Stay and look at more pictures.
o Ask him what is going on here.
o You can afford the price.
o Pay for a lesson (-2 Gold Pieces, +2 Stamina).
o Fight Sk 11 St 10 Cyrano (until one of you takes three wounds).
o If Cyrano wins, gain +2 Initial Skill.
o If you win, gain +1 Initial Skill.
o Attack them.
o Test Luck. Fail = You do not have such a ring (6 Damage).
o Lose one food & item (harpoon or lucky charm).
- If you did not have two gold pieces:
o Leave the cathedral.
o Tell it your story.
o Ask it for luck (+4 Luck).
- Examine the huge coral formation in the distance.
- Try to hide in a niche in the coral wall.
- Use food to heal to full & use a Toolfish.
- Use the Sawfish (-2 Skill & -10 Stamina to Kraken).
- Try something different.
- Attack with your sword.
- Fight Sk 8 St 20 Kraken.
- Take 3 Black Pearls (+3 Luck).
- You possess an unmelting crystal of ice.
- You wish to be taken to the pirate ship.
- Fish Island.
- Use the Black Pearls you have gathered.
- Derd-nu-Heno backwards = One Hundred. Turn to para 100.
- You threw down eight pearls.
- You defeated the pirates, took their ship and have secured all their treasure on board!
