There is a simple answer to this riddle. I just thought it was easy. However, it can be other answers that could also fit. That's the reason i am asking why.

A contestant in a village idiot contest? No. The answer is not like a "wrong bet". It almost fits!!! but it doesnt fit. Even if the result of the bet is bad, that is only a consequence, and the riddle presupposes simultaneity. Besides, a consequence, even if it can be very probable, it is not necessary. So, the riddle is: My victory is my defeat. My defeat is my victory. Who am i?

That is not the answer. But why? I thought of a father playing with, competing against or outliving his son.

Voivod, when he gets slain with the Spear of Doom. Very interesting! But that is not the answer. In my opinion that answer does not fit, because - is it clear that if voivod wins that battle, he also loses? Also, i always have that feeling that that person that voivod becomes when he loses is not voivod anymore.

That is not the answer. But why? I thought of a father playing with, competing against or outliving his son. Interesting justification. But it does not fit in my opinion. My father, for example, in other times, won me in a tennis table game, and he was happy with that, and without any kind of censure from my part, i did not feel any feeling of defeat from his part.

I won't spoil the book by explaining why my answer fits.

But i must confess a flaw in my translation of the original riddle. It should not say: In my victory, i lose. In my defeat, i win. Who am i? Because the original riddle is: My victory is my defeat. My defeat is my victory. Who am i? Power?

My defeat is my victory. Who am i? Power? That is not the answer, but let me think if it fits... If i gain power, will i lose something... Well... Maybe... But i do not think that is necessary... Again, in my defeat, if that makes me lose power, will i win something? Again maybe, but in my opinion, i do not think that is necessary.

Also, i always have that feeling that that person that voivod becomes when he loses is not voivod anymore. If he wins the battle against the mercenary player-character in FF44 I think he does lose. Insofar as his soul continues to be lost and he carries on killing and maiming. He loses the chance to become fully human again. I think that is a loss. Check out: fightingfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/VoivodIn any case, though, I accept it when you say that's not the answer.

It is not a compulsive liar the answer. Why that answer?
I will not say the original solution to this riddle but the most i'll say is this: the original solution is formed with two words. It is not very difficult, i think. And i am not playing games, only testing the difficulty of the riddle.

It is not a compulsive liar the answer. Why that answer? Because only a liar would call a defeat a victory, and vice versa.

I keep thinking of the logic dog in Spectral Stalkers, but presumably that's nothing to do with it.

I guess if you were to fight your mirror image, Citadel or Clash stylee, you'd be both the victor and the defeated if you won, or both the defeated and the victor if you lost.
