I really can't feel threatened since I don't know what he said. I won't know until I get home and read COH. But you know you're a FF NERD when you can read COH coded language in a few seconds. lol
No offence Sylas.

Pretty much. You missed a couple of words - it's 'Once you get the hang of the language, you'll never be able to stop reading it' - but you've clearly grasped the essentials. Wf lcpm fet pob an fwew prld.

A new world indeed. but typing it out on my own is a challenge, I can only try to read it, that's about it. I'll get it eventually, just will take practice. Have a question though, so on #337 what do they mean by: Underneath this writing is more, but written in a different stylethere's / and - and = so i'm confused. The entire paragraph is the COH language. I'll decipher the beginning eventually, it's just this last bit.

I love the code.I use it myself at work sometimes if I'm leaving notes to myself that I don't want others to read!

I think the 'different style' thing is supposed to indicate that the last bit isn't in the same handwriting as the rest. Possibly notes made by the Dwarf from whose corpse you took the message.

Bad Background. A Nonsense. Too much information when there should rather exit none. This book (a good one) did not deserve that.

This book (a good one) did not deserve that. not sure what to make of this. in a way i do agree, but hear me out first. it's not that it's a bad background or nonsense. it is in fact one of the best ones out there. but starting the book in your form, i do agree that perhaps the background wasn't entirely necessary. it's one of those when playing through feels out of place, like it should belong somewhere else where it is needed (i.e. Trolltooth Wars). one of the books i always compare Creathure of Havoc to is Black Vein Prophecy. both great books with excellent narrative but i give BVP the edge because you begin the book not knowing anything but gradually learn to piece together a complex and vividly painted story on your own. with COH, while the background is well written, is not something that you as the Creature is supposed to know therefore comes off as a bit of an infodump.

Can anybody tell me what the best edition of this book would be? I remember playing it when I was younger but could never finish it because of the main error (Which I just found out about) Would like to start it again but dont want to unless I know there is a chance I can make it through. Actually, I'd go for the Puffin one. Yes, it has The Error, but it also has the correct combat rules, plus the all-important map on the inside cover. Why all-important? Because it's your only clue that all the signposts have been swivelled round!
Go for the Puffin one, and just remember which reference The Error is on (213).

Your only clue apart fromthe fact that the 'arm' of the signpost naming the place you've just come from doesn't point the way you've just come.

The background in Creature of Havoc is one of the best things in the entire published history of Fighting Fantasy! Would that Steve Jackson had done more of this sort of thing.

Oh, it's definitely a good read, it just doesn't make sense from a role-playing persepctive for your character to know all that going in. Though it's great fun when you recognise something from the background in your playthrough ("Oh, it's one of the vapours of Stittlewoad" "Oh, it's Rosina of Dree!" "Oh I was SPOILER all along!")

To the one who ask what edition of Creature of Havoc to buy - defineately the wizard version - because the front cover is outstanding, tremendously better that the puffin version.

Creature of Havoc is a good book. Not magical to me. I absolutely love the front cover of Wizard books. I do not like the Background. Moreover, I do not like the way i get smart. Something wrong to my taste.

Is it just me or you talk more and more in gibberish? Are you staying in character all the time?

Ian Miller's stuff is incredible.

Vag 'I do not like the way i get smart' sancho I don't know, does Vag getting smart leads to death and destruction of the known universe? If so, I'm not sure I like it either. I mean, I still got some books to read, movies to watch, and music to hear. Let's not even thread on backlog games...

I couldn't disagree more. Ian Miller's stuff is incredible. Different tastes. In general, I'm not a fan of the Wizard covers, but the Wizard's cover of Creature of Havoc is absolutely spectacular to me and extremely better than the puffin's cover.

What the hell? That was nearly a perfectly normal answer. That supports my theory that Vag just likes to act like Vag most of the time... Or maybe Tammy is right about meds.

I like both covers, they're very different. The Puffin one is more interesting, the Wizard one more striking.

I like the Wizard one as well. But I'm not sure that the creature depicted deserved the cover spot, though. I also like Ian Miller's original, but I'm always bummed about how they change it to Zharadan Marr (can't remember correct spelling) while obviously it is supposed to be Daramouss.
