eye of the dragon.
1st shot - 9/17/11 - keeping a goodmap. i went left and after trying many doors i got teleported back to the start with a 4 skill penalty . anyway it gave me a chance to go the other way where the directions made no sense to me so the map is already a mess! anyway i climbed down a pit and was killed by a ghoul...

2nd try - 10/23/12- i picked up so much crap! i also found four numbered keys which feels very promising. i gained a companion whoi'm sure will be oh entertaining. then we met an evil wizard and i died.

5th shottie

Killed by gargantus.
grrr
6th shottie - max stats
Yep, I killed the gargantus and had a bit of bother with the doppelganger as well, but I made it!
WIN!!!
Hmmm. Not sure what to make of it really. I certainly don't think I need ever play it again anyway!!!
Bloodbones next - brilliant! Played it a few times but never got very far!

3rd try - 10/22/12i stuck with exactly the same path aslast time ( which is tiresome) Eye of the Dragon actually allows you a fair amount of freedom to experiment with paths. Odd for a Livingstone dungeon adventure!

BLOODBONES
1st shottie - 12/21/12 - Brilliant! Unfortunately, I have no idea what I'm doing..
I fight three guys right away, which concerns me if I have to start again with crappy stats. Anyway, I spend all my money at the market, and therefore have no bribery money left which means when I cause a lot of bother trying to see the governor I can't bribe anyone to get out... so I rot away in a cell.
2nd shottie - 7/17/8 - Ah. I kill two pirates with some difficulty and was sure the Half ogre would get me,but i survived with 3 stamina points left. This time I go to the gambling halss and make some easy money, I get an important clue (maybe?) and then buy (and eat !) provisions. I then check out the taverns, fail a luck test and get sacrificed at an altar...
Tough book!

3rd shottie - 10/23/8 - Followed up the 'room 101' clue. Oh what a good idea! I failed a luck roll, and ended up sacrificed at the altar again!
4th shottie - 7/16/9 - Ach. Killed by the Half Ogre at the very start!
5th shottie - 11/19/9 - Ah.Got a clue from a beggar, went to the lighthoose. Saved a ship, got a password. Went to the cematary, met the zombie manny. I had the shark bracelet - A genuine pure fluke ! I fought a great white and rolled brilliantly even though we were evenly matched. Then I met a bounty hunter, he asked for co-ordinates and I had none (unless I wasn't paying attention) - so another fail!
Damn. A really good book, but I very much doubt I'm going toget much further with only one more shottie left!
I'll have that shot tommorow!

BLOODBONES - Last shottie - max stats!
Poked around the town and found a co-ordinate i had missed. Onto the ship and found the other. - Which meant that this time I found the island! (Never managed to get there before!)
I found a village, and passed their tests. I never had a bone sword so suffered a penalty and reckon i probably doomed myself there. Doesn't really matter as I found the entrance to the shrine, passed the numerous luck tests, but had to roll two dice four times and not get a double.
I rolled a double!
FAIL!!!!
I enjoyed that a lot! - however, I reckon playing it with anything other than max stats is a waste of time! And aren't the illustrations dreadful!

By comparison with what's in some of the first Scholastic reissues, I wouldn't call any earlier FF art 'dreadful'.

HOWL OF THE WEREWOLF
Found this book when I was on a wee holiday in Cardiff. Had no idea it was out. I've only played it half a dozen times over the years - canny mind if i've ever completed it or not...
1st shottie - 8/16/7 - OK, I drink a potion from an old dear to help me a bit, kill the bad wolf who got me. Then I encounter a headless horseman, who I'll admit actually creeped me out , and he ended up killing me.....
2nd shottie - 9/15/7 - A longer playthrough. This time I have the signet ring so i actually know what i'm supposed to do. I have an eerie encounter with some gypsies (and actually find my first item!), I end up with my skill boosted to 12 after going through the change a couple of times and have a couple of cool skills. I then make it to the castle and find the count. However- I have NOTHING else in my possession. I JUST manage to 'kill' the count the first time round, then he comes back to life and i die .....
This book is great! - However, I cant believe I got so far without finding anything useful (apart from a moonstone amulet) !!!

And aren't the illustrations dreadful! Apart from the one of Cinnabar (Leigh Loveday's review summed that one up well: "he [Tony Hough] ended up making your cruel nemesis look like a sweaty politician gurning helplessly at the paparazzi who've cornered him in a red light district.") and maybe the jungle queen, I think they're decent. I like all the different crew members.

HOWL OF THE WEREWOLF - 3rd shottie!
10/17/10 - nice
I know this book is huge anyway, but it feels even bigger! - the amount of new stuff i came across this time was crazy! This time I found the vampire hunter and got a flintlock pistol, I found a silver dagger as well- then another one in a pool full of maggots. I also had a lot of money so kept well stocked with provisions and a nifty breastplate.
Anyway, I got to the castle with my skill boosted to 12. Having the breastplate helped as well, and having two daggers was the clincher! I muddled through, but I got there in the end!!!
WIN!
Hardly an optimum playthrough though! - away to have a guid look at Champskees walkthrough!
Stormslayer next - played it once when I bought it, so almost brand new!

STORMSLAYER
- 1st shottie
11/16/10
I failed completely to get the fire elemental to help me, I had to kill him instead, which would have been tough but having the Breastplate & the lucky sprite helped! I managed to find the other three elementals. I particluarly liked encountering the decapi after reading the brief mention in 'Titan' years ago! I had a warhammer as well! I found the ship and, well,I won!
SUCCESS!
And thank God for that! - that took an AGE. I really don't like 'hub'books very much and it felt alot like 'Night Dragon' tbh. Interestingly, looking at the relevant thread on here , this book seems to be very well liked! Ach well, each to their own.
Night Of The Necromancer next - only tried it once, didn't like it much.

NIGHT OF THE NECROMANCER
11/18/9
Nice skill boost to 12 at the start. Well,I fought 28 baddies. I suffered many 'hubs'. I collected a spirit stone. I had 8 codewords!
Nothing mattered because when i got to a spirit door I had nothing useful and could progress no further!
2nd try - 12/23/9
Again, nice boosts! I tried to do different things - particularly at the start (a part of the book I do enjoy), I ended up with 3 different codewords than last time, but they were STILL no help in getting through the spirit door!
aaarggh
Two tries DEFINITELY enough tonight - its really not my cup of tea, and I'm at a loss as to what i am going to have to do to get any further!!!

NIGHT OF THE NECROMANCER - 3rd Shotty
10/21/12
OK, finally getting somewhere. I find the suit of armour and burst through lots of spirit doors. I kill the Liche queen and pick up some stuff! I watch Unthank get killed. Then I have to fight the big baddy and I HAVE NOTHING GOOD! Particularly annoying as the last twotimes iwent for the spirit stone and this time i went to avillage and got nothing - anyway - I Died!
4th shotty 11/19/10
Right I got the spirit stone! I collected 13 codewords, and seven abilities, ended up with a skill of 14 and a will score of 21. I always fought 33 bad lads - which is ridiculous!
Anyway - I WON!!!
I'm in two minds about this book. It is VERY well written and has a great atmosphere, but I feel it goes on far too long and there are too many fights and codewords to deal with.
Chuffed though, didn't think I'd manage this one!
Blood of the zombies next - I bought this book when it came out - I've never even opened it! I've got a first edition but i'll go with the 2dice plus 20 rule i think. Obviously I know i'm doomed , but any guesses on the most zombies i'll end up killing before i die?

It's impossible to beat with 2D+20, which I guess you already know.

May as well set your Stamina to 100 for the first 5 shorties then double it for shottie 6!

Or just play by the rules in the book, so you die faster and can move onto the next one sooner.

Obviously up to you, Steven, but I’d take Greenspine’s advice on this and go for an authentic result. You’re going to die, I’m afraid to say, so you may as well do it by the rules in the book.

It's impossible to beat with 2D+20, which I guess you already know. According to someone in the relevant thread there is an infinitesimally small chance of completing it but it would take tens of millions of perfect characters all following the correct path.

BLOOD OF THE ZOMBIES
1st shottie - stamina 27
I died almost straight away when I try and go for Otto's head - oops.
2nd shottie - stamina 31 - I find a 'hendrix' bag. This bag is amazing! I ended up carrying 40 pieces of shite and also had 8 different weapons on my person! Anyway, there is something charming about this book, I know its stupid but its so straightforward and the illustrations are some of the very best! Quite a big playthrough but unfortunately 'Zombie Kong' finished me off - total zombies killed 150 (I have no idea if that was a good effort or not, i was making a lot of lucky rolls. 2 more playthroughs tommorow! Lets see if i can beat 150!

Also interested in knowing the most zombies anyone on this forum has legitimately managed to kill?
